Hi I am still waiting for Morgan to reply to my email regards this mod. To be honest I am not sure why this set up is less prone to coming lose then the original. Maybe its the loc tite. Apparantly they have done many FOC mods but your face has to fit!! Sometimes Morgan seem very helpful, other times less so. At the moment they apear to be ignoringing any emails I send them. After many months still I am still waiting for them to confirm agreement to repair a cracked body shell that was only six weeks old. Very reluctantly it looks like I maybe the first talk Morganeer to take them to small claims court( or maybe not)

I have the kit but haven't fitted it yet. I know that using permanent Locktite it is very hard to remove without heat. Behind the crank sprocket is the crank seal and I'm concerned that the heat would harm the seal. Any body got thoughts about this?

It depends on what grade of Loctite is used.
If you use a high strength retaining grade you will never get it apart without the application of a considerable amount of heat.
The correct grade to use would be a thread locking grade that can be undone by applying extra torque to the screw but which will hold the screw sufficiently tightly to prevent it from coming loose due to vibration.

As Loctite 243 is what the kit instructions say to use, I would say stick with that.

When I picked up my car at the dealer after the Centa drive installation he told me he had put Loctite on the camshaft pulley bolt. This to prevent that the bolt would come loose. Not sure if he also installed the new kit but I don't think so. Now I'm in doubt if only this Loctite will do the job. Peter Dron, who suffered the issue in his car BTW, mentioned in his M3W book that S & S advised against the use of Loctite on this bolt - no idea why. Indeed, it remains a mystery to me and that failure was expensive and frustrating. The repairs were of course carried out under warranty, but that does not cover a train fare and hotel bill when your dealer is a few hundred miles away. While writing the book, I had trouble getting info from S&S and it was only through the helpful intervention of my good friend Pete Larsen that I was put in touch with a man who was prepared to collaborate. This was rather late in the day and I was up against a deadline. He helped as much as he could but I felt that, er, there was some confusion within S&S...or an unwillingness to discuss the problem. Some time afterwards, the man who tried to help me left the company. It seems obvious to me that 1) the original bolt was wrongly threaded and likely to become loose, especially considering all the vibrations within the engine; and 2) some kind of adhesive of the blue Loctite type was essential. I am not an engineer but sometimes you do not need to be to spot the bleeding obvious!

Some photos of the S&S crankshaft cam drive pulley after the upgrade, complete with new cam belt. If all goes well it's about a 2 hour job. With the improved ventilation and drive the cam belt life is back to 30,000 miles or 3 years again.
