I just changed the plugs on my Duratec which to my amazement were very clean (not been changed for 7 years), no rust at all! The forum advice for using PlusGas to free them worked well.
However a really strange noise has started, just at the point when I accelerate there is a strange high pitched "chirping" noise, it is not very loud and lasts less than a second.
I imagine changing the plugs is just coincidental. When I Googled the fault there seems to be lots of possible causes;
1. Fuel (I have just started using Shell Nitro +) 2. Pin hole in exhaust 3. A belt sticking 4. Intake filter hole 5. Air filter 6. Vacuum leak 7. Clutch 8. Alternator bearing
I have not started investigating it yet but am wondering if anyone else had this problem or have an ideas on the cause?

Chirping is often down to a slipping belt. Did you get any plus gas over spray on the belt?

As Dave suggests check the belt. also check the idle pulleys on the belt as it took me ages to find a weird 'mooing' sound it was a pulley on its way out!

Ha! I love happy endings.. You get that 'I knew I wasn't going mad' feeling of self satisfaction.
Well done.! I'd have gone for the belt too..

Glad you found it and a simple fix! My Plus8 had a chirping on " hard" acceleration. It had a new belt put on by Berrybrook when I bought it a year earlier. I took the belt off....it was perfect....cleaned the pulley surfaces with brake cleaner sprayed onto a rag, wiped the belt, put it back. No chirping since despite some errrr attempts to induce it.

Just been to see friend with 1 year old Roadster that had annoying rattle. He took it to Tudor Vernon at Market Drayton and after an hour of driving and testing.it was found to be the front bonnet catch rubbing.! A little adjustment and grease soved it.

You can get a very annoying tingling sound that is difficult to locate. I sounds as though it is coming from behind the dash. If that happens check the locking ring under the gear knob. Now if I hear it I simply tighten it up by hand but the first time it happened I nearly went crazy trying to find it.
