Looking at these images I see that the high-level brake light is somewhat hidden by the luggage.
Is there any requirement (by law) to show the light if you have one? I remember reading recently about one guy who had an extension to the light so that it could be seen over the luggage parapet.
I am not a stickler for rules; just wondered if it mattered...
I understand that it's a requirement in France that if a high-level brake light is fitted, then it must be visible - so if the bag is in the way, an alternative must be fitted.

That is my understanding - I have an extra brake light that I fix to the case using the luggage straps and plug in to an extra socket I have fitted to give a visible third brake light.

And here's the 20 euro solution. It had to be 60's to match the era and it had to be black to match the interior. The other option is a battered 60's vintage Rimowa aluminium case but they are difficult to find.. and cost more than 20 euros.
For UK cars in the UK - "if a high-level brake light is fitted, then it must be visible" -However there is no statutory requirement to have more than two lights - so remove it Like so many things on cars; if it is present it must work, however the requirement for it to be present is a 'may' and not a 'must'. For UK registered in France - at least until June, the same as above. For French registered cars in France, I've no idea.
