What is the recommended tyre renewal period for low mileage cars I wonder?

Cheers

Hi DMH I was always under the opinion it was 5 years due to the rubber hardening, not visible damage, after 5 years for peace of mind I would always change any way, Ian

When was the cam belt last changed? As with tyres, its more of an age thing than miles driven. Failure will have very expensive consequences.

I get the cambelt and tyres changed every 6 years, pale then lie down in a dark corner and recover with a glass or two wine

Yes new cam belt was fitted as part of the pre-sale inspection and service.

Change tyres & brake fluid if not already done & then enjoy the car

Thanks for all the help. I am going to sort the tyres out as advised. It is great to have such a forum with advice available for new Morgan owners - thank you!

When it comes to old tyres: I had a very frightening experience last spring in Italy with 5 year old Continentals. They nearly lost all grip on a wet downhill street.
Changed to new Vredesteins afterwards and they are excellent in wet and dry conditions.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice. For the sake of a modest price I certainly don't want an experience like you had. Going with Vredestein Sportrac 5 - tyres are clearly a very personal choice (as is everything with Morgans!) but several people on the forum seem happy with Vredestein and as my wife is Dutch....

I am getting a certain amount of squeal and boy racer noises from the outside rear of my 2001 4/4 when accelerating 'briskly' from a standing start, and usually when the tyres are cold.

They are Continental 165x80 (15") with pressures set at 22lbs all-round, as a result of reading previous TM or MogTalk threads, and partly to make the steering less heavy. I don't know how old they are.

Is this just cold tyre syndrome, or are they hardening and would therefore benefit from being updated to Vredestein, e.g. Sport Trac 2?
