Graham, Thanks for the info. I doubt many people could beat 22 years. I just don't know how old mine are...a journey beckons, and I look forward to hearing less boy-racer squeal.  I don't suppose tyres come with any kind of date stamp. I have never seen one, or a Best Before. It makes me wonder what kind of tyres get sold beyond their Sell By date... On a different tack, what's the recommendation from the team concerning greasing ones nipples?

I don't suppose tyres come with any kind of date stamp. All tyres have a date stamp, I can't quite remember how it works, though. Month and year, I believe.

King pins - grease every 500 to 800 miles (or 1000 on a longer tour), just my philosophy. Ignore handbook that says something like every 3k...

I do mine every time the Odo clocks up another 1,000 miles. Which means I do it 15 times a year   Cheers !

Thank you all for the greasy tip! On the tyre front, thank you for the link Steve - I didn't know tyres were dated. On investigation, the reason for the boy racer squeal becomes apparent (particularly during the Bromyard Speed Festival): Front Offside - Continental Contact, 2814 Front Nearside - Continental Contact, 2814 Rear Offside - Firestone F560, 4900  Rear Nearside - Firestone F560, 2604 Spare - Firestone F560, 2604 The tyre making all the noise has been on the car since new. How embarrasing. Time to spend money, and improve roadholding and safety...but only three tyres for now. That leaves me with some cash towards a new radiator.

My tyres turned out to be from mid 1995 and pleased to say I got great service from a very friendly and helpful Paul Harris today not far from the Belfry and I now have some Vredesteins on. I feel a lot happier with some decent rubber on the road! Won't forget to "run them in".

Ah, (derosa) so you were that same person who was with Paul Harris this morning when I called to check availability and prices!
As you say Graham, no more of that slipping and sliding followed by an unexpected axle jump and breakaway...
