Thanks. My 4/4 has the radio aperture (with blanking plate) which is not leather clad. But using a rudimentary measure is 180mm X 50mm, however according to Bose the speaker measures 180x51. So think I'll have to get one using their 30 day return policy & try not to scratch it. Hope that 1 MM. is not going to cause a problem.
I asked a well known dealer how much for an after market radio fit. Ouch over a grand. Got to admit the sound from that little Bose is superb.
Thanks for the idea.

So, is using a hand held remote specific to the head unit whilst driving also an offence? From reading the law as posted it would seem not, although it is transmitting "Data" to the head unit, so it might be.

If the remote was secured to the transmission tunnel, so not hand held, would that be allowed as it would be no different to controlling a fitted radio?

I agree that all such distractions are just that, but as autonomous cars evolve the law will have to try to catch up. At the moment, it seems to me, that the technology is moving faster than the law and it might be better to scrap all the device specific laws in favour of "failing to maintain proper control", but then what is the status of an autonomously driven car?

Hi IcePack, I don't know how old your 4/4 is, my 2015 +4 had all the wiring in the "blanked" radio aperture, I fitted a radio/mp3 player, the wires and holes for the speakers were behind the carpet near the door stays, I did not fit an aerial as they rattle and use a usb with mp3 files on to listen to, Radio £45.00, speakers (high power good quality) £45.00,

If it's nailed to the car it's not as 'mobile' as being held in your hand 'mobile', although you, the car and the device are 'mobile'.

Got it..?

Exbiker thanks. Late 2011 car. So wireing should be there.
When I asked the dealer it was for a high end unit with hands free capability so guess it all added up. Thanks for info.
