I have a Hilka 2 ton jack maybe 20 years old. Its lift is 23cm but I think it used to be more. No signs of leaking oil. There are two plugs one slotted which seems to have some kind of adjustment slot under it & a hex plug which seems to be the oil reservoir & seems full. Any thoughts on how to increase the lift?

Perhaps it needs to be bled? If air has crept in....

There is probably a screw near the top of the cylinder you loosen to let out the air.

May I ask another relevant question. Where would you place the trolley jack on the rear chassis to lift a back wheel? I have a 2009 Plus 4

There is a cross member at the rear of the chassis that is the preferred place to Lift the rear of the car. My 2011 plus 4 has a painted panel which has the rear fog light and reversing light moulded into it which covers this cross member, so I choose to use raise the car on the differential. Others will say not to use raise the car on the diff. For the few times that I have had to raise the car at the rear, I prefer to do it that way rather than damage the body coloured painted area covering the cross member. The choice is yours.

You can purchase a jack pad , its a rubber pad that pops over the head of the jack . I think Machine Mart has them stops any damage.
