Fan ignites at any speed less than 10mph.. Designed to, in case you're concerned..!! According to handbook there is a temperature parameter as well which is born out by the fact it doesn't always come on instantly below 10mph. Correct. When she's cold it won't come on under 10 MPH, but that doesn't last long. Once she's warm, it's always gonna be there at a stop.

Would you current owners consider the urban cooling kit to be an 'essential' add on in the UK then?

"Essential"? No, but it's going to be interpreted differently by different folks. Valuable? Yes. Any time you're lowering high temps it's gonna be a positive thing. It's essential if you're in a parade in Phoenix Arizona.

Without it the engine gets very hot in traffic and eventually the skipfire mode kicks in which misses every other firing stroke. Once I had the urban cooling kit fitted it was much happier and runs much better in the (rare) summer heat. It's a pretty "cheap" upgrade if you don't have it and well worth it.

Thanks boys. I'm about to take delivery of chassis no 003!, cooling kit not expensive at £150(?) but it does spoil the looks IMHO.

The other benefit is it ducts air around the back of the cylinders when you're moving so keeping things cooler and at a more even temp.

So we rumbled and potato potato'ed down the valley to the sea at Crackington Haven (N.Cornwall). In the car park we were met by one of the Morgan factory tour guides. I think he was as surprised as we were.
