Mark, you've reminded me that I also have another; a grill from a high cowl Plus 4 of the 1950s - the grill used after the flat rad and the interim cowl Plus 4. It's longer than the one that followed and is still used today.

So How Many Morgans does it take to get a price estimate on re-chroming a grill?? Four apparently!!

I told the breakfast group of my need to visit the plating shop to get an estimate on re-chroming my car grill(s).

Now we have a road trip planned. 4 Morgans, each with pilot and navigator, going an hour and half down the road to the plating shop. A lunch is planned afterwards.

Cheers,

Mark

Is this your experience??

I can't see why; after all, the vertical bars are soldered to the curved top and bottom.

They may be confusing a Morgan grill with an MG one where grill is made up of component parts screwed together.

When we had problems with heater plates in our factory I had some coated by a company named Poeton. They had a unit just down the road. I did a tour of their place. They did all sorts of metal plating there. I needed a Teflon type coating which they did for me at their Gloucester unit.
They are offering a number of coatings both metallic and non.
They even had a dragonfly coated in a teflon type material in a display case.
Their site shows the range, including a very hard chrome option. Claimed to be harder etc than normal.
The finish on items I saw was excellent, including coatings for Oakley sunglasses and cadmium on helicopter parts.
With chrome plating the main issue is toxicity of chromates/chromic acid etc so it is now less prevalent, bright nickel often replacing it.
They used a simple masking method with tapes etc to prevent plating on some areas of parts, like masking a car for paint.
Cost is an issue, sometimes cheaper to buy a new part!

Mark, try S&H plating in Madison TN. They do my MG parts and turn out great. The delivery is good also. They are not cheap but are no more expensive than anyone else anymore. They do parts for my concours T series cars and have done work for a friend/restorer's Pebble Beach cars.

Thanks, if the local, Melbourne FL, location fails for what ever reason, I'll try them. It is amazing just how few plating shops there are these days. Between cheap replacement bits and the OSHA regulations I guess they find staying in business a bit difficult.

Cheers,

Mark
