Hi David.
Thanks for the info much, appreciated. I think I now have enough information to help me get this job finally done. Im not expecting a totally silky smooth gear change but almost anything will be better than what I have at the moment.

You're most welcome Steve.
Having dismantled the lever assembly on my rolling chassis, I can see the reason for the 'acorn' shape; it's to allow for full angulation of the gear lever in relation to the remote selector arm.
I'm sure you'll manage to get a more than acceptable gear change although these 'boxes were never reknowned for their 'silkiness'!
