Wow! that's loose. Checked mine at factory after it was first fitted and tensioned - max 30° twist - still the same after 700 miles.

Same here.

We now have 30 responses with 15 noisy and 15 quiet

(Ignore the yellow highlight for 105Chris - it simply delineates between quiet and noisy)

Of the 15 noisy:

12 are 2013 or earlier, 2 x 2014 and a 2015 Brooklands
7 have the NVH, 8 do not (assuming hbatts does not.)
Pretty much all the noise is when the BB is hot and somewhere in a 45 – 65 mph speed range
7 are still noisy with heavy duty oil and 6 of the quiet have replacement oil.

Of the 15 quiet:

8 have NVH and 7 do not
8 are 2013 or earlier, 7 2014 or later

Some conclusions so far:

The BB noise appears to be less for current cars.

For those with a noise problem there is no clear advantage in NVH and/or heavy oil (although 2 reports of quiet running with a 140 oil)

The noisy BB is speed and temperature dependent which perhaps points to a resonance and thermal issue (a good post from RogG about the pre loading which makes sense).

See also a previous post from Bwitched about rebuilding his BB which could also point to a preload issue:

I was sort of hoping this survey would point towards a simple single solution but I don’t think that’s been the case.

I’ll forward it to MMC as a follow-up to the M3W Focus group and, unless any of the respondents object, also copy to Garage 56 to see if it helps their investigations.

2014 car,1000 miles, screamer at 65+mph, alum. sprocket, belt loosened 1/2 turn on adjusters. I usually wear a helmet and ear plugs when on the highway, so don't normally hear the noise. I would liken it to an old Hewland, or my early Victory motorcycle which has a tranny that shares an aluminum case with the engine crankcase.

Update for JVS

Just added the SuperMax rear sprocket and no NVH

It's quiet till it heats up?

I know that some time down the line i will need to have the bevel box looked at.

I also know that one or two owners have stripped their bevel boxes.

Question; do you have info on replacement bearings and torque loading's etc?

Sorry Chris, a bit late to this...I've been busy!

2013, 7800 miles, been on its current (3rd) bevel box since 1200 miles, steel pulley (Huge Improvement), no NVH (was told at the factory it wasn't worth it!), Morris Lodexol changed regularly, gets noisy on the motorway when warmed up and at lower speeds after a motorway run.

Doesn't seem to be noisy on the race track though...but my Stage 1 exhausts are....101dB on Saturday....was under 90dB a few weeks ago at Loton Park

Has anybody tried to tap a couple of holes on the bevel box and install an oil cooler?
