interesting responses chaps! I've lurked on this and a couple of other sites for a while as I looked for a 'classic' [my definition] Morgan. 25 years ago I ran a flat rad +4 and a mos box +8 [glory days!]and I'm just finalising purchase of a 67 +4 -recent rebuild, scuttle roll bar telescopic rear end racstorations engine brmm brmm!!
My posing of the question was a serious one [no josh - I'll come to that in a minute] provoked by the invisibilty of earlier cars on this and other sites and generally. When I saw the heading classic Morgans on this site I thought 'this is the place' but I don't think I have seen anything related to older cars in the time I haver been on. Talking to a couple of people with older cars the attitude seems to be that the club in the UK has changed and offers nothing for owners of older cars and a general sense of isolation - tragic!
Simon thanks for the explanation of the the nomenclature here - from an MMC perpective it's great marketing but the term classic in a car context would certainly not include new cars in most car enthusiasts minds It is certainly not my intention to name call or disparage anybody who is enthusiastic about Morgans - I've been an enthusiast since my treens and owned cars with 3 and 4 wheels since 1970. I'm just greatly saddened that from my current perspective the marque seems to separating from its history. Wondering what can be done about it and happy to be proved wrong
Lastly - surname rogan - rogan josh - josher! Porsche club humour from a very brief sojourn a few years ago
Rgds to all

I think this part of the forum simply reflects the ownership profile - not so many with older cars. There's a lot of information about parts, servicing, restoration etc for older "traditional" (better word then "classic" IMO) Morgans on: www.gomog.comwhere you will also find the emog mailing list. If you're a member of the MSCC you will also find the mogtalk mailing list a great resource. OTOH you may already know all this! Nigel

I take it back then Josher although 'joshing' in general is very welcome here. I think the defensive responses are in view of the fact that some people still try to drive a wedge between various Morgan models and their owners and we're quite averse to that. We're a friendly bunch who just enjoy each others banter and share a love of Morgans and Cars in general So trad/classic call it whatever you like. Personally I use both but like the word classic as it refers to the 'Classic' shape of both a Morgan and an earlier generation car. Which is certainly great in my eyes. Welcome on board.
Cheers

Hi Josher, '67 that will be a Kent then? I have a soft spot for Kents, if nothing else it gives one a chance to fit Weber DCOE's which I regard as simply automotive art.
May I ask what you mean by the "the invisibilty of earlier cars"? the very last post I read on eMog was a a query regarding Series 1 bellhousings. Also I would suspect that a large proportion of postings in general are car-age neutral, discussing racing, social events, paintwork, chassis, suspensions, the MMC etc etc.

Brian it's a +4 so the engine is a TR4 engine not a Ford. Still capable of weberisation though experience with my other +4 was that you needed acces to an oil well to run it. I reverted to SUs even with petrol at 2/6 a gallon! The current version is on SUs SO I'm hoping for reasonable economy
My reference to invisbility was based on atendance at a few Morgan gatherings with virtually no early cars in view and the absence of such cars for sale in the UK. The club doesn't run any kind of register. I did contemplate buying cars from N Zealand and USA but wasn't brave enough to buy unseen and couldn't spare the time to travel to view. I had expected there to a reasonable number of earlier cars around but didn't seem so - I saw more at 3WC meetings and maybe there is a message in that
thanks for the gomog link which I already follow.Lots of tech stuff but a US site carrying much that one might hope the home country would have generated but then again the majority of 50s/60s production probably went to the US
Maybe when I get out and about in my new aquisition a few more contcts will be made. I just hope I don't end up leaving it in the garage which is where many of the others must be

Oops yes you did say +4 You can find a register here but not too sure if that's what you meant. (If your car is not registered it would be good if you updated it.) I'm in Jersey where there is not to much Morgan activity, but the one big gathering here had Mogs in about the correct proportion of numbers produced I would have guessed. I also attend a small gathering of Morgans in France whenever I can. Out of the 8 -10 cars there, typically only one is a 60's model. But again I would have said that that is both because many more cars are produced now so you see more new cars, and, when people have a number of mogs, for longer journeys they chose the newer ones. Personally I would love a series 1 (and an S4 Aero). So many cars , so little money (and garage space.) But whatever you do don't leave it in the garage
