I have been helping a '94 +4 W T-16 in Calgary, Canada get his +4 sorted. Once the details have been sorted the +4 seems to be AOK. Colin Jones gave us confidence that this was not a dog. +4 imported from Belgium/Spain. Needed help but nothing unusual.

I have read in many places here about the weak rear springs, my 2011 4/4 has a habit of touching the overlong seat bolts down now and then.
Was the spring swap to 4 seater leaves a factory recall, or only done if the owner complained? If it,s a recall I'l check if mine was done. Is it an easy job? That or I had considered getting rear shocks with adjustable ride height, is that viable.

Peter tell me how you cure the stiff seat runners, is it just oil them, or is there a trick to it?

The rear spring change wasn't a recall in the UK. My March 2012 car had weak springs.
It's not a complicated job but it will test your resolve, as a certain amount of strength and cunning is needed to refit the new springs.

The seat runners will work better if they are mounted flat to the floor. If you don't have wooden spacers, it's likely that the single nut which protrudes below each runner will be pressed into the floor and this arches the runner.

Are those clips completely evenly spaced, Dave?

One of my winter jobs this coming winter will be to place thin spacers, with a hole for that nut, under the seat rails to relieve the problem.

Another unnecessary "they all do that sir!" will be eliminated.

Sagging springs appears to have been a global issue around 2010/11. There's plenty of reading on TM and GOMOG on this problem.


In Australia some cars were presented with or quickly developed a "lean" to the drivers side in some cases as much as 40mm due to poor quality springs.
This meant the car often bottomed out even breaking the toolbox tray and damaging the timber frame around the inner wheel arch.

My 4/4 (and others) did not have the 100mm minimum ground clearance as required by Australian Design Rules (2006) or meet Morgan specifications for that matter.

This proved even more of a potential problem for the +4 and the roadsters.

Our Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport reacted quickly and effectively in getting Morgan to fix non compliant vehicles.

This was done at the request of affected owners.

Playing with the dampers or other suspension parts only masks the problem - better to fix the springs which are the issue.
