To bring the topic back to its' original use, which was to remind owners of spec and of servicing issues, it suddenly occurred to me the other day that I hadn't oiled the air filter foam, since I'd owned the car, and it certainly didn't seem to have any oil on it when I rubbed my fingers across it, so I've ordered some special sticky filter oil. I just thought others might like to check theirs, what with the dusty days of summer imminent.

I'm sure many will disagree but I do not oil airfilters.
Without a doubt oiled filters offer better filter performance but as they gather dust they fairly quickly start to clog up. I prefer to keep them dry and I simply wash them with warm water and detergent every few thousand kilometres. The small amount of dust that passes I am prepared to accept as a trade off for the increased performance.
My daughter had a nice oiled airfilter fire when here bike backfired when she tried to start it. The bike was saved by a quick thinking patron on the veranda of a nearby pub: he used a well shacken bottle of beer as a fire extiguisher. After that I changed it back to a standard type of airfilter.

That's a good point Peter. I bet your daughters bike was on carbs? I can't say I've come across a serious backfire with fuel injection.....yet.

I'm 99% sure the pops and bangs on the overrun are built in when the car is mapped, they don't have to be there, but if anyone wants them removed they will have to find someone who can unlock the ECU first, then remap it. They might even find a few more torques below 3000 revs?
I had made an exhaust by Berchill which filtered the noise better, the pops and bangs totally disappeared.

Weren't Birchill the company that made the original exhaust system? I showed mine to my local pipe fabricator, Phoenix Exhausts and their comment was that it was full of welded joins, which it is, he wondered why they just didn't use one pipe snd bend it accordingly.

Birchills Automotive Exhaust Products, yes that's right, on my criteria I made a new sports exhaust but more conventional, the engine does not seem to have lost power, the sound is sporty and finished pops and bangs.

I have placed the same exhaust as API.No more pops and bangs
and a good noise .I hear more the sound of the throttle bodies.
The consumption has not changed and idle is more stable.Below
4000 tr/min the car run better but i find that above 4000 tr/min
the engine engine rpm increase slower to 8000 tr/min .

Thierry, I would be really interested to know what the changes were from the standard exhaust. I'm desperately trying to find some torque between between 2500 and 4000 which is exactly where the cruising range is on the road and is the real problem with the Cosworth engine. ie cruising at 70mph [about 120kph] is 3000rpm, so when you put your foot down to accelerate, the only thing that happens is more noise, no meaningful acceleration without changine gear, which is fine for a track car, but not a cruiser, and should not be necesary with this engine.
Most ARP4 owners will understand my frustration, although any Duratec or GDi owner will wonder what the fuss is about.

You should contact API wich has contacted Birshill to design the new
exhaust.

The cosworth engine has level 2 race camshafts.The max torque
is 220Nm at 6400 rd/min.May be it is possible to install
another cam shaft more suitable to drive in the street.
