As per title really, how often have/do you have trouble with your Morgan and in particular Aero's?

I am trying to fathom whether or not I will actually get to use the thing at this rate..or whether I should expect constant problems?

Long story short but I booked Goodwood FOS last year along with a few other niceties for a long awaited week off in June that now looks to be a rather wasted in parts as the Aero is broken.

Its getting rather frustrating that I sold a car I restored to concours condition (by hand) for something that I could use and enjoy..and I can't ever seem to use it!

/Vent over.

Evening Nick

S4 Aero, generally yes, but it's had it's moments - bad wiring to starter so no long awaited weekend away, the occasional click and the repeated engine warning light.

But for me when it works then I'd say it's worth all of those low moments.

When will you be at FOS, I'm there on Saturday with number one son and hopefully the Mog as well, assuming it's working!

Good luck and keep the faith.

David

Nick

I'm sure we have all had occasions when we have questioned one or other purchase. Before the Plus 8, I had a 3.7 Roadster, which I only used odd weekends. Nice car, but initially it was very unreliable starting - traced to a ECU fault. Then all was good. As David said above, keep the faith. It may seam like a tough journey right now but stick with it and you will get there.

I've had the S3 since September, and the only problems have been a front indicator bulb, and a flat battery on day 2 of our Ireland trip.
Probably tempting fate by posting this, and I must admit to expecting problems, but to be fair the car has been very reliable. The Roadster 3.7 I had before was 100% reliable.
Loved the Roadster, and adore the Aero. love

Both my S1's have been great

A fully restored car will still give issues, believe me I know.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I am sure it will be worth it (its kind of like a loveable dog that you can't get mad at) but it does frustrate me greatly when you have limited windows of opportunity to enjoy it.

David I am going Thursday/Friday, the weekends are so busy my poor wife can't see anything! (Not a problem for 6ft 5 me..)

Regards,
Nick

Nick,

Bought Tarks, the shiny brown Plus 8 in Nov 2014, with 15,000 miles on the clock. It is a Supersport Aero underneath. Auto, paddle shift, all the extras.

Now has 26,000 miles on it. I expect to take it to 100,000. It is a car to be driven and enjoyed, not a display model, even though it can pretend to be the latter.

Two problems, both sorted by MMC under warranty. One was a legacy of a minor repair when it was their demmo car that they didn't properly fix, the other a circuit board failure behind the dash.

No silly niggles, not problems. I assume it will work and that if I wanted to drive it across Europe it wouldn't be a problem.

Is it representative? I suspect not, in that it had all the post manufacture issues sorted by the factory as it was both press demmo car and the development hack for the paddle shift system and the new steering wheel.

I do hope you get your car sorted: An Aero is a really wonderful thing.

Nick - I'm there on Friday and, if it's dry, will take my Aero +8.

I live en route to Goodwood from you - you'd be very welcome to park at mine and come down with me in the Morgan.... Let me know.

Hi Nick

I've done about 3k in mine since February touch wood no major issues (speedometer seems to have sorted itself out now)I think you've just been unlucky. Off to LMC in July & tour afterwards. I must admit though I do feel a little bit of apprehension in reading some of the comments on here about S1's. scared

Hi Nick,

I've done 1800 miles in 8 weeks since getting "Rosie in Blue", mainly on trips to days out between 160 and 300 miles each time. No issues with how she runs or drives, only concern is the extremely inaccurate fuel gauge. Which when indicating near empty the maximum I can get in is 38 litres, the manual says it an 80 litre tank. ooo Apparently they all do that sir. Last week Berrybrook had the car for a day and half to put the decals on the refurbished wheels and lacquer them. Whilst up on the lift James kindly changed the gearbox oil to Fuch Race Syntrans (ester fully synthetic). It's the same Getrag r58 box as in the 3.7 Roadsters and this oil improves shifts in 1st and 2nd especially when it's cold.

Sorry to here your having issues, I have been told by several previous owners they are best being regularly used, an adage I found also applied to classic Morgans. My 96 +8 needed some serious fettling after doing only 1200 miles in the 5 years before I purchased her.

I'm sure that once the issues are sorted you will have a great S1. Hang n in there they are great cars IMO. Hope to meet up with you some time. cheers

Adrian
