Went for a drive last night on my own, had a encountered a little light rain which only made the road damp not really wet.
As I accelerated from the slip road onto the M56 the rear end let go then almost immediately gripped again with only a slight correction.
Just made me realise just how careful you need to be with the right foot!
Later on I tried to fill the fuel tank and with no warning split petrol all over the back quarter!!
Learning all the time.

Try a wet road with white lines when the road temperature is 5C! Brings new meaning to the phrase "Adrenalin is Brown"....

Seriously, even on a warm dry road with hot tyres it possible to lose traction when giving it some in 2nd or 3rd. This is simply because one side of the car has better grip than the other: the LSD seems to cope...when it doesn't then I'm told the back end can snap, quite quickly.

Tarka is an Auto: when traction is unsure I tend to keep in in D, rather than sport, as it softens the throttle and keeps the highest possible gear, usually 5th...!

In sport it is just the same as the manual car.

Worthers, I have new Pirelli P Zero Neros on my S1 Aero, they are pretty grippy, but mine is tuned to 330bhp and I have noted as PeterK says that under hard acceleration in 2nd or 3rd especially at around 4500 rpm who the torque really starts to kick in the tyres can start to be pushed to their limit of adhesion even on a warm dry tarmac. This can be felt by a slight momentary loss on acceleration and then a sudden rush as grip is regained, not something you want going round a bend, also I would not to experience on side letting go and the other loosing traction, even in a straight line.

I think I have been lulled into a false sense of security by the phenomenal level of grip up to that point and just pushed a little too hard!
There's no doubt that I need to show a little more respect in future or it could be expensive.
But hey what a GREAT car, so much fun and always gets a nice reaction.

I was told 3 Aeros had be totalled in the last 2 months , probably written off due to cost of repair.

That sounds like a good amount of power, can you remind me what its had done again? Think it was exhaust and a map?

3 being written off is not good news

Exhaust and a map to Si I believe, there are plenty of BMW tuners out there, but SimonH would probably be the man to ask first having built Aero racers.

In the USA it is possible to get a supercharger to fit the 4.8L engine, it sits in the "V" between the cylinders and doesn't raise the engine height.

The result... an extra 100 bhp and about the same ftl lbs torque, with peak torque available 1000 rpmm lower.

The standard 4.8L in Tarka offers:
270 kW (367 hp) @ 6300
490 N·m (361 lb·ft) @ 3400
Red line: 6500

The idea of 460 odd ft lbs at 2400 rpm is simply frightening!

Mind you, these are BMW's figures. Tarka seems to have MMC's "Sports" exhaust, so I've no real idea what power it is tuned to.
"Enough" springs to mind....

They certainly feel fast enough with the sports exhaust on, I can't imagine how lively it would be with another 30/100bhp!

I've had mine sideways a couple of times - very correctable and not for the faint hearted.

But this is true of any powerful car without traction control. Part of the fun and needs respect.

I think the grip feels superb, but traction is not brilliant with no weight. I have no desire for more power.
