I have been musing about using a trailer to tow the M3W behind our motorhome (Fiat Ducato van conversion) as a convenient run-about car when touring. An ordinary car trailer would obviously work, but has to be quite large to accommodate the front wheel width of the car - for a small car our M3Ws are really quite large: I am already tight for storage space at home.

I wonder if anyone had considered using a boat type trailer with the car reversed onto it. The front car wheels would be behind the trailer wheels and so the overall width of the trailer could be the same dimension. The whole design could be quite skeletal, lightweight and minimal in size. The majority of the rest of the car (weight) would have to be in front of the trailer wheels to get the weight distribution OK. Would probably need to winch the car onto the trailer - if so what would you attach to on the Morgan? A suitably low trailer design could also potentially be useful for working on the car.

Perhaps a crazy idea. Any thoughts?

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

A flat bed motorcycle trailer has worked very well for me.

This was a simple mod that entailed drilling four bolt holes to move the wheel chocks so that the M3W fits. The ramp unfolds and you just drive up. The front skirt is invaluable to keep debris from hitting the car.

I secure the front to the supplied tie down hooks and run a strap through the rear wheel so it doesn't slide about.

I also use it for working on the car as my back appreciates the added height!

Thanks for that. The concept is more or less as I was thinking for the boat trailer. Have just been talking with a trailer maker, so there may yet be further developments.

If you look through the MotorHome mags, you will see a towing "device" for want of a better word, which is used by many of the MotorHome owners.
I see quite a few during the season towing Smart cars or Toyboater I Q's.
Would this be of any help?

If you are a member of the MTWC there are some plans in the library section you can download. They are for a trailer exactly as you describe albeit around older three wheeler dimensions.

It's hard to know exactly, but the weight bias seems to be more rear of the axle. They do NOT tow well with light hitch weight. I'm sure it pulls nice and I'm probably all wrong on the weight bias.

I think you would need the Morgan front wheels hard up against the trailer wheels to keep the weight distribution on the front towing hook.

Regarding Reg's comment, conventional motorhome towing hitches wouldn't work as M3W's can't be towed and to tow it backwards, rear end of the ground -probably very unwise - would be such an indignity!

As long as the trailer axle is far enough back there should be adequate tow hook downforce as with Black Adders neat solution.

To load car facing forward would call for a greater axle width trailer.
