After re-reading the post on the rebuild, I got to thinking about front pinion bearing lubrication. If all the original, and not certain about current BB's, had the black slim for oil, it's very possible that the front bearing gets very little to none of the oil. If you look above the pinion gear, you can see a very small slit in the housing/plate. I'm sure there is one on the bottom as well. I would guess this is where the oil gets routed to the pinion bearings. If you guys are indeed flooding the housings up to the vent with oil, then the pinion bearings "should" get oil. But I'm still a proponent to NOT flooding the case and only filling up to the side hole. If you look at the newer GL1800 Goldwing final drives, they have a vent on top, drain on the bottom and a side hole that you fill to. They also state to use 80/90 weight oil, it's cast right in the housing. But overall it sounds like the BB noise problem on new M3W's has lessened to an acceptable level. I hope that older M3W's have had it worked out by now. Good luck guys.

Hi all as usual I am a mile behind my late 2012 makes all sorts of noises but most covered by wind noise and the exhaust. I have everything factory so what noise is the issue and how do people pinpoint it?

Guys The information you've started to collate is great, I'm wondering if we could push it a bit further and see if we can build a better picture.
Questions i'd like to add (if possible?);
Has the noise got worse over time (or constant)? What tension have you got the belt at? Is the belt alignment true (as far as you can tell)?
As Chriss99 says noise is subjective, vehicles that leave the factory are found to be acceptable / within our parameters during road test.
Mark Evans Here's the updated report with the extra info. RogG and Nippymog - I've left your record as "Noisy" and included the comments on it being OK when cold (mine is he same). Does this point to a need for a thicker oil and/or cooling duct? Dear all, Is this report still correct ? Are all bevel boxes which where reported as quiet still quiet ? Or ....... (sometimes miracles exists).... is there a noisy bevel box which got quiet ? If yes, is there a reason ?

Mines gotten even quieter. Could partially be due to lower winter temps... we'll see.

Mine is now noisy after about 30 miles especially in the 50-60mph range.
It has become more noticeably so after I fitted the Supermax sprocket, the old sprocket was probably drowning out the BB whine so it couldn't be heard.

At the time of the survey, mine was quiet but it did get noisier with more miles clocked up during last summer. I would classify it as 'noticable' rather that 'screaming'. I can't comment on what it's like now as the car has been keeping cozy under a blanket since September...
I would certainly be interested in a permanent solution - especially if it simplifies (or reduces the requirement for) oil changes!
