This car has caught my eye:

Any opinions welcome. Would it be difficult to source a correct 1500 engine?

Looks interesting, effectively asking £30k, it would have to be pretty good at that price and then there is shipping and presumably import duty if coming to uk. Should be a fun car, looks quite sorted.

Thank you. I am under the impresison that the aluminium ones are few and far between. The seats and general "lightweight theme" caught my eye.

Just for guidance. It looks very similar to my 68 4/4 aluminium bodied comp spec well "patinated" series 5. The advertised car differs in having the twin webbers and more highly tuned motor, the bucket seats and 5 speed gearbox. All highly desirable unless you are looking for originality. I bought from a UK dealer and paid less than half the asking price of this one.

Quite a high price, but a nice spec, great patina, and interesting history. But why wreck it by putting in an original engine?

Auster, when did you find yours? This might be overpriced then?
Frankly, I could do without the upgraded engine, and I'd prefer the original engine (and gearbox). But since I am new to these, I am not sure yet what has added value.
What is sure is that the idea of a competition model with alloy body appeals.
Maybe I need a cold shower to make me realise it is not the right car for me...

Edit: Hamwich: by original engine, I mean the one it was built with in the first place.

You may have already done so, but the first thing I would do at this price is get the chassis number and check with the factory on it's spec when it left. A fair bit if its asking price is being based on its originality despite the change of engine and box. Just my tuppence worth.

Looks a bit rough for that sort of money.

I asked for the chassis number.
Does Morgan answer these queries by email?
I agree it is a bit rough, but I have not seen another alloy one for sale.

You can order a chassis record from the factory for a fee.
I think it is in there online shop.
