Hi rockabilly, i need to know the tappet clearance. I found on my s&s x wedge paper only the valve lift and i don't think it's what i need. Even the valve lift seems to be a bit strange because it's like 0.0580" that converted in mm is like 1,47 mm ( it is not right to be a valve life proper measure )

drk a Morgan dealer should know the valve (tappet) clearance. My dealer fitted new pushrods & rocker arms on my engine & would need this info to reassemble correctly.

S&S . Hi drk, Holy crap. This is from S&S but NOT for the X-wedge. The cams have de-compressors built in, so the gap may well be 1.47mm. With the engine cold and the de-compressors engaged, the gap will be very small. When the engine fires and is running, normal operation will kick in. When this happens the gap will return to normal, i think!

Thank you all for the help. I have the s&s x wedge guide. The section about head and valve talk only about lift...i'm still waiting for the answer from my Morgan dealer. i'll let you know about the clearance.

I may be way off base on this, but I believe all S&S Wedge motors run hydraulic lifters. Not sure how this plays into their easy start cams that reduce valve lift upon startup or less then 500 rpms.
On twin cam Harleys, the new motor since '99, when using S&S lifter and their fine thread push rods, the lifters are preloaded 4 turns from zero. Different threaded rods take different preloads. Harleys are typically noisy and some are now recommending additional preload to quiet the motors down a bit more.
I thought that someone here had a S&S manual. Wouldn't that be in the manual? Or even under maintenance in the M3W manual?

Thank you Elcyd and Dan. I was thinking the same ...maybe it's not easy to reduce liter plays. Tomorrow i will go to talk to a specialized mechanic not too far from here which works only on v twin. At this point i'm start thinking to have some valve problems but the engine run very well until i stop it..then it just don't start again. thank you all for your help

From the S&S Manual...
Hydraulic Lifters Hydraulic lifters are self-adjusting. They automatically adjust length to compensate for engine expansion and valve train wear keeping the valve train free of lash while the engine is running. When starting the engine the valve train may be noisy until the lifters refill with oil. If the valve train remains noisy after twenty minutes of operation, this may be an indication that one or more of the lifters is not functioning properly. Consult an S&S service agent if further service is required.
