The standard Bilstein 4 seater shock absorber has a large bumpstop.
I had problems with this as the springs settle on it causing handling problems.
I changed to AVO's from Tim Ayers and the ride and handling is much improved. I set them at 3 stops for general use. They have been recalibrated so the normal setting is in the middle of the range.
I have however added my own adjustable Mini bump stops which are attached to the roll bar. This allows you to pass over road humps without feeling the rear axle is joining the rear passengers.

Would you be able to post a picture showing location and mounting method or your bump stops?

Also....how many miles have you done with the new ones? Perhaps the fixing bolts have worked slack?
My rear Konis were in need of replacement but I got fronts as well. Big improvement in the feel of the car with softest setting on rear and on 4 at front.
Easy to fit by removing the tool tray for upper mount and jacking rear up for lower.
I did add one extra washer to space the uppers a bit better. New nylocs to keep them secure front and rear but front top has a double nut so locked well.

Thanks a lot for the advice!
I will checkout New Elms and the specific reference for 4str damps.

Cheers,
Vladimir

Thanks Titus!
Any pictures or explanations on your tweak?

Kind Regards,
Vladimir

The Mog has gone in for its MOT and service this morning. I will do some photos on its return later today.
The rear AVO shock absorbers are TB1260/m6/S Special Short.
The later springs are not as thick as the original and when I removed the original Bilstiens they were under tension and effectively past there extension.
Some of the banging from the rear over bumps was from the shock absorbers running out of travel. Not good for the shock absorber or driver.
Tim Ayers at New Elms had these made from the measurement I gave him.
Not sure if this applies to later 4 seaters.

Yes, the original dampers on the later four-seaters have a long bump stop or spring assistor as MMC like to call them. I tried AVO's at the rear, but this did not solve my problem.

Only when I got air suspension dampers in addition to the original ones, the car was able to handle four small adults plus luggage. Now I can pass speed bumps at the same speed as normal cars flag

Last winter I was on the point of launching a small proto run of generic bump stops for the 2 seater based on my original design that I posted some while ago. These have turned out to work brilliantly for gently constraining the suspension movement. Depending on how they are adjusted/setup I can even feel them coming into play and pushing back on the hard corners. I’m sure they would be just what the 4 seater needs but do not know if there is suffiecnt space available.

Thanks Roger I have been trying to get a photo showing the bracket without much success.
It is all very tight on a 4 seater.
The seat base and kick plate are very close to the rear tube so there is no room for the top plate and mounting block for the bump stop on your excellent design.
I mounted the bump stop directly onto a heavy duty L bracket then clamped it with a heavy duty U bolt to the rear tube.
The bump stop is positioned an inch over the top face of the leaf spring.
It is adjusted by sliding up or down the tube.
A bit basic but it works.

Roger,
I would be interested in a 2 seater set if the price is right

Harald,
How does the air suspension setup work, it sounds ideal.. Would it be expensive to fit?

Titus, would be great to get a pic of the bump stop if you can..
Thanks,
Will
