A lot of people, me included. 911s are a bit characterless and depreciate hugely, though I have to say that the GTS version with go faster stripes did appeal to the inner little boy.

110K on a 911 wouldn't give me anywhere near the the pleasure that an Aero would.

But as mentioned, it depends what flicks your switches.

See...I've ordered one but I'm not gutted by anyone's comments. You likes what you like and the comments are quite valid......to the person making them.

I've owned an S3 and driven trads (admittedly not a +8 Aero) and I could equally come up with a list of dislikes/likes but isn't that the point....we're all different and all the better for it.

I'd be more gutted if I saw hundreds of other people driving around in the same car....which I'm likely to do if I'd selected to buy the new 911 4S Targa I was considering before placing my order for the S5.

I drove the factory test car (cream) and to be honest, noticed very little in the way of a change in elbow room in the cock pit. Dashboard....well, again, horses for courses but then the dash on the S3 didn't put a smile on my face....driving it did!! :-)

I think it's safe to say Morgan owners are certainly not sheep. It's always a brave decision to buy a Morgan so I salute my fellow Morganeers...and their comments.... and take them in the spirit they're meant :-)

It will be very interesting to hear your view on ownership once you have lived with it.
To my knowledge we have yet to see a report on one in ownership plenty of brief squirts but that's all.

The only thing I have read as a criticism is the folding roof which I'm sure they have had time enough to remedy by now.

Good luck I think they look great and different thumbs.

I think very few of the roof critiques came from people who had *actually* taken the roof up & down... they'd only read that it wasn't an 'easy up' mechanism.

Having had more than a short squirt in the car, and several opportunities to take the roof up & down, it's certainly not the hassle that some commentators would have you believe.

Thanks for that Will it always makes a difference when someone drives one and is committed to the breed, that is good news indeed.

We look forward to seeing yours and hearing more about it in a few months thumbs.

The fact we are here and drive Morgans on any/every flavor indicates we are not ones to follow the norm.

A 911 is a mainstream car and over here they are considered no flasher than a Range Rover or an Audi RS. They are impressive bits of kit and have something magical about them that perhaps other cars don't.

But they're not Morgans. They lack the rarity value, the oddity value and that air of cool which the brand has developed over the last 10 years. And M3W and Aero just ooze modern British cool. They're massively flawed pieces of engineering but they stick 2 fingers up at the world and deliver pleasure like no other.

I have over 700 miles in the S5 now. A bit low by my normal mileage standards but not too much of a brief squirt :-)

I think DodgyKen sums it up perfectly. There are very few cars with any real individuality.

The car comes with a video guide for utilising the roof. When you first watch it the process seems odd but do watch it again and FOLLOW the sequence. Once you've done it a couple of times it will be quite straightforward and whilst it will never be as simple as the S3/4 roof, it does a much better job, which I think was always the objective. Plus, it looks good up or down. With the exception of the early S1's the folded hoods on the others always left something to be desired.

Good to hear it's all going well and the roof is practical in the real world.
