Have just got my car back from the local garage (not a Morgan workshop) who have fitted a sports exhaust for me. When I picked the car up this afternoon the fan was running but the mechanic had been running the engine to check for exhaust leaks etc. however on arriving home, just a short trip the fan continued running. I have removed the fuse. Any ideas?

The fan will continue to run until engine temperature has dropped and is perfectly normal, it's controlled by the ECU.

Mark Evans Thank Mark, the engine was cool to the touch, I am thinking it may be the Otter Switch or a short?

Mark knows his stuff but as the block is cool to touch and the fan is still running could I suggest you have a look at the fan control relay. Not common but not unknown for a relay to have its contacts welded shut. If your car has a fan switch in the radiator might be worth pulling the wires off and if you have an Ohm meter checking to see if it's closed circuit, it should be open circuit when cold/cool.

On a 2005 Roadster, the fan quit. I could not figure out what the problem was. So I installed a Flexolite Temp. Switch. I put the probe into the upper (probably should have been lower) hose and connected Wires. It is hard wired (no switch). Seems to work OK. Temp is adjustable. Just by-passed the existing wiring plugs etc.

Whilst I hate to tell the factory they're wrong about something...
The ECU didn't control the fan until the "Black Top" Zetec or Focus engine was fitted in late 2001/early 2002
Chances are it's the otter switch (bottom right of the radiator) throwing a wobbler or as Colin pointed out, the relay may have fused in in its "on" position

I've had a Kenlowe (yes, aftermarket but the principle is similar) "relay" stick in the on position...

Thanks Guys, I have a Escort 1997 silvertop (I found this out by the number on the timing belt) will check the relay if I knew where it's located? I will also check the otter switch circuit for open.
