I've got a tonneau cover that splits down the middle and covers the passenger seat so I'm thinking of driving with just the side screen on my drivers side to help keep the rain out of the cockpit and off me

Has anybody done it or is it just pointlessly silly

I don't think it will help keep the rain out much and more importantly it won't be a good look.

Shocking news! You'll be wanting to put the hood on next... grin2

I know a couple of people who have reached a husband and wife compromise about sidescreens v no sidescreens. Wife has a screen and husband doesn't - looks, erm, unbalanced. ooo

Get a tonneau with a clear drivers bit you wear over yourself, you can put in some holes to breath through if you like!

Be a man and face the elements. Real men climb the Eiger, swim the Channel drive without side screens. grin2

I have genuinely being thinking of designing a cape that fastens on to the drivers side tonneau cover fastenings that goes over me, the chair and the steering wheel as a hood

I can't remember the last time I had the sidescreens on but I'm out in the high winds and potential rain on Sunday with a bit on an exposed part of the Motorway and I've got a feeling I'll need them on or be drowned

Bursts of heavy rain but Sunday we have forecast high winds as well and I've committed to a FellMog run out

I'm sure everyone else will have their hoods up but I can't be bothered putting the hood up as its so neatly rolled and tucked away

I would tend to put both on - I think you'll find otherwise the passenger side of the cover will become overwhelmed with water and spill into the car where the dividing zip is in the cover. In part it will be made worse by the unequal pressure you have created by being lop sided.
Water tends to drive up on the door sides after a prolonged run in medium rain without screens on I have noticed.

Your drivers cape sounds like a real goer to me.
