While trying to lubricate the kingpins, it seems one of the grease nipples on the front suspension of my 1975 4/4 is blocked.

Does anyone on here know the exact size of these please?

From what I can work out they may be 1/4 x 28 UNF.

I currently have a 90 degree angle, which may not be the best for flow?

Any recommendations please for regular grease nipples.

I appreciate I could buy a remote conversion kit or even a newer Morgan, but would prefer responses to size of grease nipples required.
Many thanks! smile

They are 1/8" BSP. I find a 45 degree angle works best. You can get them here

Off to order them now!

Cheers.

The other thing to try is to unscrew the grease nipple and leave in degreaser for a bit and then try it on the bench and refit if working.

If anyone else has the same issue, the 1/8 BSF nipples arrived, they are much larger, than those currently fitted

The correct size for the stub axle grease point on a standard 1970's 4/4 is in fact 1/4 UNF as I originally thought.

I am now off in search of those!

Oops, sorry about that! I wonder when they changed - they are certainly 1/8 BSP on my 1986 car (you did get BSP not BSF, didn't you?)

You can get 1/4" UNF nipples from Vintage Motor Spares too, as per my original link.

Do we know what size the nipples are on the drive shaft between the gear box and rear diff.

Also what is the size on the thrust clutch on the earlier cars located in footwell

and is the same grease nipples on the footpedals spindle?

So, here is my question. The newer cars have the grease nipples. The older cars have an oiler system. Which is better? I am at the point of reinstalling the oiler system or replacing it with grease nipples. Need some advice.

Can anyone please clarify exactly which size thread are the front suspension lower grease nipples on a 1971 4/4 4 seater?
So far, it seems it's been suggested that they are: 1/8" BSP, 1/4" UNF OR 1/4" BSF.
Can anyone say for sure which is correct, before I start the next quest, which is where to source them locally, in West Yorkshire.

Many thanks confused2

I would guess if a car has an oiler system that is what it is meant to have, i am sure i have read somewhere that the kingpins on oiler cars where not designed to be greased from the top. On the basis that modern oils are thinner, I have fitted lathe oiler cups to gravity feed clean oil instead of squirting an unknown quantity of used oil from from the engine. Not very technical as it requires personal judgement, but little and often seems to keep the pins oiled without it washing out the grease or dripping out, works for me but may not suit everybody.
As for grease nipples i would order two of each as they are cheap, the ones you have over will make a nice pair of earrings for the other half.
