Yes and SWA is not that expensive, wired up lots of friends garages and sheds. Yes you do have to pay for the cable.I always wire to the 17th edition of the IEE regulations which usually adds say £10 to the SWA cost as you need to increase the conductor size of the SWA to get the lighting voltage drop below 3%. It's not a game changer

If as in my case the electrics were up to date in the house and I had a spare "way" not a problem when I did my new workshop garage.

With all due respect if the electrics in my house were out of date, I would do what I did when we moved in to the house 20 or so years ago. I updated the electrics to modern rcb and earth leakage protection and I replaced cables that were old or over capacity in the house.

That's not a garage wiring cost it is the cost of home safety.



Yes I did get my house electics proffessionally tested and I did not consider that anything other than what you need to get done every say 5 to 10 years or so. Just like I get a roofer round every few years to go up on the roof and check the slates and flashings.

Sorry but being able to mess about in a bright warm garage is just great but yes insulation, electics and other stuff has to be paid for.

Fair enough, I certainly agree with you about having a decent electricity supply to the garage, it's just that having 50m of 6mm SWA laid to our garage ended up costing us way more than £200, and that's with our electrician doing the job at mate's rates.

I have more of a problem - in that the garage is about 50mts other side of the lane we live in. There is a an electric pole quite near the garage and I fear the answer will be a new supply just to the garage with its own meter !!

I've had two Morgans over 5 years and have never placed my battery on charge, only once did they let me down and that was after 5 weeks of non use in a cold January/February. The answer is to use it regularly, all year round, at least weekly and go for a decent drive to recharge....a Morgan is for driving after all.

See how you get on. My 4/4 will hold charge for months without use and start first time. Whereas my Aero struggles after 4 days without its CTEK life support. If you can use the car as regularly as many are suggesting, you might not need to spend the money putting armoured cable to your garage. Buy one of the portable capacitative jump-starters instead, then you have a Plan B.

That looks a nice car with very low mileage - congratulations! A shame you can only use it at weekends. And a pity, too, that you don't have power because I also have a CTEK which I have been using since 2010. If and when you can park near a power source, they really do give good peace of mind.

I don't know your car, but I do know Allon White well and can say that they never fail to impress me.
