I will try your very helpful suggestions, Dear Peter. At first checking ground of the areal and then making a direkt connection to the battery feeding the radio.
And I will report about it (in a new thread), so possibly others can benefit of the research.

I'm wondering if other 4/4 owner have a clear radio receive - to learn if it is an individual fault or a common issue.
Just try AM radio with engine out and ignition on (loud noise in my case) vs. engine out plus ignition out but radio keeps running in other key position (clear receive in my case).

You can also try some ferrite clip-on chokes to suppress RF interference. They are fairly widely available, and for different cable sizes. Here's one example:

As to whether it's worth having a radio, I have one and don't use it much but occasionally use it to catch up on the news/sport if I'm waiting for SWMBO whist she's in a shop or if I'm in a traffic jam or slow moving traffic.

I've always found hearing as well as sight (maybe more important on country roads) when turning right at T junction - is very important. You hear before you see !! Radio and chattering passengers don't help .
