Hello guys, I have a friend who offered me a V8 from a M5 E39 with only 2000 km (1242 miles) on the clock. It comes from a M5 wich burned down, the engine was saved. Does this engine fit the Morgan S1? If so, I think I snap it up, since mine is clocking up its miles very fast.. Could also be the easiest/cheapest way of upgrading the performance, no? Any thoughts? Cheers

The key issue is to know if the EMS is supplied and if someone can manage the loom
As well, I am not 100% sure that the drivetrain would cope with the additional power and that should be checked in details
Such a swap can be a nightmare in electronics and ancillaries in my experience with issues arising from all angles, such as unsufficient fuel pump and fuel system, additional cooling capacity, different air con, alternator etc...

The GTN had the Alpina 4.6 V8 from the BMW X5 4.6is and various Alpina products; therefore, this does fit and can be wired into the S1. However, the E39 M5 uses the BMW S62 engine, which is a derivative of the M62; more information on the S62 can be found here . My concern would be the size of the engine and as the others have said, the complexity of setting up the electronics.

Of course the GT3 cars (present and original ones) run that M5 engine but in agreement with what others have said I would think their budget is slightly larger than what you have in mind?
Cheers

I've looked into this quite a lot.... it's not straight forward but can be done. There are several threads already on this topic.
If you do go ahead be ready for some serious spending and getting friendly with a local engineering/machineing shop to get some of the parts made.. mounts and the like.

Hmmm...thanks for the input, guys. (as always) Looks like there is more to it than just losening some bolts. The seller also restores formula 1 cars, I'll have a chat with him. See what can be done. Love the idea though.

I have recently inquired about a different engine in the ss model because of my desire for a manual transmission instead of the offered mostly auto transmission. My request came about with a discussion one of the american dealers had with Charles Morgan at the centenial. My desire the present BMW M3 V8 with their manual transmission setup as I reason the size/weight differentials to whats in my S4 today cannot be that much different. I have not got a response to my formal request yet.
Love the ss lines, not a fan of the transmission setup. We will see what the response is.
