Its a cover Americans put over the engine.

All the advice on here is sound. I have been to BHM twice now and so far driven the GDI Plus Four, a brand new 4/4 , a 2009 4/4 sport and an older plus Eight. Its hard to know what to go for but I did not like the GDI but it only had 97 miles on the clock and felt stiff and unbalanced, the 4/4 fell over almost at the first roundabout, a very unsettling experience indeed. The 09 Sigma was a delight but would need to have tb's I think to match my own car. The plus Eight, whilst needing a re-trim was a real suprise. It was shod with alloys and not heavy at all. I really liked it. Unfortunately all my tests were taken at the school run hour and I was only too aware of speed limits and that these were not my cars.If you could speak to Nick or Keith at BHM you would find them thoughtful and informative and well aware that this is a big decision.

I met up with a very long-term and serial Morgan owner on a classic car holiday last year. His advice was - don't buy on looks as two identical looking cars can be like chalk and cheese. They simply must be driven before a decision is made.

I was lucky enough to go down the "new" route and my car has proved superb and a delight to own. They however do "settle" with regard suspension and generally get much better with the miles. Its a far better car with 2500 miles covered than it was at 250 for example. The gearbox/engine/steering all seem to become better as the miles mount. I've been told around 8000 miles is the sweet spot - but again every car can vary and its how they are driven i guess.

So a little used, low mileage car might not be the best buy and something thats been used, but cared for, would be better.

just bought a lovely 4/4 year 2000 with the zetec engine. Mechanically its very good and drives beautifully, with lots of receipts and full service history.
It appears a well looked after but not pampered car and cosmetically has some issues. This was reflected in the price though and is something I will have my local painter sort. I'll be treating it as a bit of a project so is ideal for me. The interior is beautiful condition if a slightly unusual blue colour with 38k miles on the clock.
