That's not the compensator, it sounds to me like something is knocking on the frame.

Rubber bush failure somewhere near the engine?

get a length of rubber hose and hold it up to your ear, take the other end and poke it into some nooks and crannies and see if you can narrow down the area it is coming from, it does sound more like something is loose.

Check that the headers are set right. If not, then they can cause the exhaust pipe near the end of the muffler to hit the body. Everything flexes down there and it goes away once the engine is running at speed and smooths out the vibes.

These had to be reset since you had the Centa unit put in which meant that everything had to go, including the engine, compensator and trans.

Just a thought. Mine did it after I had the Centa unit replaced as well as the header which broke.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

UPDATE:
I did find that my rectifier was busted causing a rattle. I've got a new one on the way. I've already burnt through one set of bobbins on that. This time it was the actual rectifier plate that broke out around the bolt hole.

I did find that the left side exhaust was loose in front of the muffler and tightened that.

I used a tool up to my ear and found that it is loudest when around the bell housing of the trans.

I took the interior out and checked the drive shaft and the bevel box just to be sure. No problems. E-brake line wasn't getting hit. Trans mounts appear to be OK.

It is definitely a strange noise. It is repetitive, but not rotational. Knock, Knock, Knock.....pause, repeat. With some help we were able to determine it happens at low RPMs with the clutch in or out, so that actually tells me if it is mechanical it should be in front of the clutch.

Still waiting to hear back from the mechanic. Maybe MMC has heard something like this before..

I was in Elkhart on Tuesday. I'm about 1 hour SW of Elkhart. When you get yours we'll have to meet up sometime. I'm actually going to Detroit for a meeting next week. If I can find the time I'm going to check out the dealer over there.
