From memory, as my 96 Plus had the oiler system disconnected, you first need to locate the oil feed pipe to the oiler system disconnect it an blank it off and check for no leak with engine running. Obtain 2 top grease nipple, can't remember the size, Mulfab can advise and supply. Disconnect the oil feed pipe at the top of each kingpin and take through inner wing and either carefully cable tie out the way or remove. Fit the top grease nipples. I always greased from the top first and pumped until grease came out, and then did the bottom. If I recall correctly it depends on the type of kingpins you have if you can actually get grease down from the top, I am sure someone else can advise, or Peter Mulberry at Mulfab will. I moved to using Lucas Red n Tacky grease on the King pins, it is excellent IMO and is hydrophobic.

replacing the oiler inlet with a grease nipple sounds a great way forward, I'm still young enough to crawl under so I wouldn't want anything remote. How difficult is it to do this?
mscc number 16633 I removed the one-shot oiling system about 10 years ago when I fitted my hard chrome king pins. I didn't bother to fit a top grease nipple, I couldn't see the point, it's the bottom grease nipple that is needed to get the grease where it's needed. Since then I have done 40k miles or so. The MOT tester has never mentioned wear, and when we stripped the suspension to fit the Suplex kit a couple of years ago it all seemed tickety-boo. If you don't have hardchrome pins, then it's probably worth coming up with a top-oiling arrangement, but my experience with hardchromes suggests it's not necessary. YMMV of course.

As Tim H says, there's no point in pumping grease down from the top of the kingpin - it is simply a longer route to getting grease to the same point as the stubaxle grease nipple (zerk).
I use the top grease nipple to pump EP90 into the stubaxle chamber. It ensures that the kingpin and bearings are always lubricated as the vertical and twisting motion of the axle, particularly whilst cornering will 'wipe' the grease from the contact surfaces.
This was Dave Rutherford's approach to lubricating the kingpins and as the first, I believe, to start making hard-chrome kingpins for Morgans, and a well qualified engineer, this is my adopted approach.

My Mog has no top grease nipple or oiler it is from 2006 and has different plastic bushes. Check what your system should look like on the GoMog service manual. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan9.html#Dynamics

Martyn's - just because you fit remote greasing does NOT mean that you magically forget to check fastenings etc underneath from time to time. The remote system merely means you can grease the bearings - particularly when away on a trip - easily. If you only take your garage queen out for Sunday jaunts, I agree there is no need for a remote system, but condescending comment to a new owner is hardly helpful as he might actually be thankful for remote greasing when away from home. Horses for courses!!!!

A tip I was given by Phil at Allon White when getting my first Mog was to lever up the bronze damper blade fixing plate on rhe stub axle whilst greasing the lower nipple. Watch for some grease appearing in the small gap you have created indicating good grease penetration. Wipe off excess. Keep damper blade greased where it slides into the chassis mounting system. The 4/4 had the one shot oiler system.....be carefull not to over use it! I suggest replacing it with a grease nipple....getting the system properly disconnected and sealed off is a MUST though. Also spray the rear springs with motorbilke chain oil as it penetrates the leaves to aid sliding on each other. The leaf springs get "sluggish" when dry.

Sound advice from Phil, I had the same when I bought my first Morgan in 2001 from him (a 1995 +4 4 seat), he knows his Morgan's ;-).

Presume fitting a grease nipple for oil rather than grease as its pre 2000?

Why is it a must to disconnect the one-shot oiler and seal it off? I've left mine in place but just haven't used it for the 20 odd years I've had the car.
