At last, a sensible answer. Some people need to get out more!

These responses are a sad, but true reflection on the quality of the product.

And the punch line is that I have never needed any of these! Carry it and you won’t need it. QED.

I guess you two don't have 4-seaters that can comfortably carry these items. Together with blankets, jackets, helmets, goggles and (sometimes) folding chairs. I go touring. We all use our Morgans in different ways.

I should have added that Glenn was asking a serious question. If he thought just one item on my list was a good idea, then job done. What have you two got to offer him?

A chair and a flask of tea, so you can sit and look at the wonderful car you have just driven, and ponder where you will go next with a big smile on your face!

I think you could chose from the various lists provided exactly what you as the individual would feel comfortable with. Colin is a man that knows about these things.

As it is a Morgan it will be something like the Headlamp stalk control that fails and the local Land Rover garage will have one and you wouldn't think to take one.
This happened to one of our German colleagues on TM last year mid holiday.

By the way I think Martyn's kitchen sink (wet wipes) is probably the most useful as no matter what you do on a Morgan you always seem to get covered in grease/muck

Fathers day weekend, I was on a Run to Victoria,BC,Canada. In the back country of Vancouver Island on very rough roads my alternator came adrift (broken bolt). It was a bungee cord I had in the tool tray that saved the day and the trip. Got Me back to Seattle.

Thank you all for your suggestions, some of them clearly sensible, others a bit weird…

I have often said to people travelling with me that a trad Morgan is the only car I know that feels like it is falling apart, especially when driving on anything but the smoothest of two-lane black top.
However, having driven Archie for over a year now I have got over that feeling.
Hey, Archie is only 15 years old, so what’s all this about duct tape (Button)? Blimey, I know it sounds like something is about to drop off on the road behind me, but does this really happen.

I think I was asking a serious question as max5 says, and the list from Steve feels like a good list to check against. But I think the line the thread has taken is just as good.
Now, what would the wise sage DaveW say?

I carry one of those when I'm touring - it means you can pull up by a mountain stream and wash the car.

I always have a clean towel in the car. As soon as it gets dirty I swap it in the next hotel.

You could also swap your towel for one of those lonely poolside sunlounger versions.

What do you mean? Very light blue painted wires can look grubby very quickly. Overnight stop at a hotel, bucket of water and (I forgot to list this item I carry) a soft long-bristled paintbrush to get into the spokes; result - sparkling wheels once more. That should stir up the "get a life" crew again.

And finally (another item I forgot), should I be travelling with the hood up (very, very rare) and with passenger(s) in the back seats and there is a front-end prang that incapacitates the front seat occupants, then those in the rear seats can't get out. So within reach of the rear passengers is a Victorinox rescue tool (see here). Should the worst happen rear seat passengers can sever any jammed seatbelts and cut their way out of the hood. The rescue tool was recommended somewhere within these TM pages.
