Thinking of having the timing cover and maybe valve covers on my 2016 car powder coated black.
Visited a local firm that did an excellent similar job on my luggage rack. They confirmed the covers would need light blasting to rough up the chrome finish and then paint would be applied and baked on at around 170°C.
It was agreed there may be issues with the paint if its surface reached 150°C. Couldn't get a useful reading on my laser temp gun due to shiny surface I believe, and it was only after a short run anyway. No problem for timing cover but concerned about valve covers. Does anyone know what temperatures these potentially could reach?
BTW got an 80°C difference on hottest part of exhaust headers at idle after same 3 mile journey. 180 on rear cylinder, 260°C on front with similar difference repeated later
