" The S&S is rock solid " .....well there have been a few issues , hopefully sorted on the latest ones . Various timing belt problems along with the bolts coming undone , there have also been a few examples of broken valve springs and the original design of rockercover gaskets tended to fail .

OP, have you already tried one?? If not, do it!!! I wouldnt buy a 3 wheeler to replace a Cayman.... I have been for a spin and understand the draw. I wouldn't say I'm "replacing" the Cayman, but perhaps moving on from it. The Cayman is a good daily driver and fun on the track, but is limited in fun on the roads. I am looking for the different experience provided by the M3W, just cautious about total ownership costs. I'm not independently wealthy, and the purchase itself has taken some, err, creative justification. But I believe I am getting suckered in...

I think "creative justification" sums it up rather well.
As for ownership costs, I'm over 10% of the original invoice total in 3 years but I have upgraded a number of things and hope this will now taper off a little.

Joejoe, for my car the weak link is the bivel box. My car has had four in only 8,500 miles.

My dealer tells me they are the same unit as what I have now. And get this, their is no warranty on new or factory refurbished units. It's all up to the dealer.

Well we know from comments made by people from the factory in this forum that they are looking at why the bevel boxes are so loud and why they are failing what this means to owners we do not yet know
