The effect of reduced air/oxygen partial pressure on alcohol and other drugs, be they legal or otherwise, in the blood is entirely unpredictable, and can be dangerous. I certainly don't want to sit next to someone whose metabolic state is that unbalanced.

I guess as a BA Gold Guest list card holder I fly more than most on this forum.

This behavior in my experience is generally related to low cost holiday flights were young folks are letting off steam as we all did I guess. I well remember being in the old Bangkok international airport and watching for antipodean chaps each neck a liter of sherry in one before boarding a flight to Sydney. I was glad I was going to London.

As others have said the UK has laws they should just be applied. If you are drunk & disorderly so be it , you don't fly.

But in my what 25 years of international travel only once did a drunk worry me. She was in a Venezuelan first class flight Rio to Caracas & basically want the scotch bottle for herself

Lets just apply the laws we have.

In the 30 years I was travelling Internationally I never came across this kind of problem on any flight. They were stopped at the gate already.

The few journeys I have made on British Snail however I have been dogged with drunks attempting to "sort" the guard out and or non payment - a most degrading experience travelling by train and one I avoid at all costs.

My flight history in over 35 years of international business travel does not record a single case of alcohol problems on any standard flight but a single incident on a holiday charter plane - which was unpleasent (pizza!!) but not dangerous.

Much more problems with obviously drunk drivers on the streets.

Muslim owned corner shops are happy to sell booze and fags to the under aged though? Hypocritical! We aren't allowed to point that out either I guess?

In Italy, which has a huge consumption of pork in various forms, pork has now been removed from school lunch menus.

Now I don't have any problem with those who do not want or like any particular type of food, and I certainly think sensible alternatives should be available, but to ban a particular type of food for "political correctness" is just plain ridiculous.

The same applies to in flight entertainment. If I don't like a film I don't watch it, or switch to something else, or if that is not possible I read a book or even sleep. As far as I know everyone has the same possibilities.

In a previous lifetime I was flying out to Frankfurt on a weekly basis - flying out Sunday and back Friday. There was no such thing as a sober flight.

A couple of large G&Ts in the BA lounge - then champagne onboard (normally 2 bottles) followed by cognac with coffee (again, normally 2 bottles).

I was served a healthy wine glass measure of Drambuie on Singapore on 1 flight.

The problem comes from the great unwashed taking flights for boozy weekends - and using the pre-flight time and the flight as the "warm-up", "foreplay" or aperitif to a weekend of trying to black out reality.

Now I'm off to work out whether Boeing can provide planes with a vomitoreum onboard for my new business venture - "Drink as much as you can" Greatunwashedairways.

Sounds familiar. When I was commuting to Zurich it was pretty much the same, although Swissair/Crossair didn't do champagne, we had to put up with red wine. Single-class Embraers on the Birmingham flight, so we used to sit at the back where we could chat to the flight attendants and scrounge extra free booze.
