I used to have an Optimate, but it expired one hot sunny day while tending the battery on my Aspencade.
Now use CTEK...

CTEK. Have the battery bit of cable permanently wired up and poking into the 'parcel shelf' for ease of use.

In fact have three CTEKs on various motors.

Like Graham I have an ancient Optimate, bought it with my first Harley in 1992 and it's still going strong (it's on the +4 at the moment). I also have a later Optimate and a CTEK, all seems well made, all do the job and all have been used on a variety of motorbikes and cars, also used to recover a couple of battery's I thought past it to a state good enough for bench testing where they supply 12v.
