Anyone know what happened, I do hope the driver was ok. I thought it went back the the factory for a rebuild and was kept in the museum...

There will be more light shed in the morning when the TM are on. The 6 k estimate for parts looks very low but the labour will be very expensive for a high end job. Not sure about resale after being written off

Not sure about resale after being written off in a previous life we made a pile of money with damaged car (it's from there i got the taste of fine car), if this repair cost only 6K i can eat the full interior of Ms Green Tea. If it's a Golf or a Toyota with such spectacular damage the cost will be low, but MMC doesn't have such knowledge in crash test i can bet on that ... if you notice, they don't show you the front damage completely, have a reason for that, the second point and not the smallest it's about the damage in the body of the engine many time on front shoot the engine block be broken and that's not a small joke at all most of them can't be weld (material reasons), and if you arrive to weld it you can't hide it , so your car value decrease dramatically. and last if the damage value is so low why MMC don't buy it back and repair ??

Looks odd to me in the eBay adv, normally a crash recovery would show lots of pics of damage.
On costs, I think chassis is about £15k, engine £15k, then new front wings cowl etc £5k, and probably about 12 weeks labour, so a rather big bill somewhere around £60-80k, if you have to pay for labour. Probably not rare or valuable enough yet to warrant the cost.

The chassis I don't believe can be repaired.

Not sure why MMC would feel obligated to buy it when it was clearly sold at some point. It's interesting he's selling the pictures first and then maybe the car. if it's really the number ONE have huge value for MMC to keep it

I suspect the guy has bought the car thinking it could be repaired easily, but has now realised that even assuming it's possible, the cost of the repair would outweigh the value of the result.
