Flying to Inverness one day we got diverted to Kinloss as Inverness didn't have ils and could not land due to fog, while BA was arranging transport it took several hours at that time of night and year the staff plied people with multiple complementary drinks and snacks to pass the time I had to go to Inverness as my car was there otherwise my wife could have picked me up as we lived in Elgin.
Subsequently when we had gotten on the bus and we're soon to arrive at Inverness airport it dawned on two Irish guys who'd happy obliged the staff to help take the alcohol off there hands, they were can we say very merry, "Oh sh1te who's going to drive the hire car?" oops

I'm one of those that spends far, far too much time inside metal tubes.

Short haul I rarely drink, mainly because a car is waiting at the other end but I always bring a bottle of water onboard.

Long haul we fly business class so I drink in the lounge before boarding and drink up until the end of the main meal service. Coupled with a couple of Kalms there is a chance of sleep. I've tried not drinking alcohol, just soft drinks, drinking only water and it all makes not one iota of difference. Back in the early days we used to be issued with sleeping tablets, but they, when taken after drinking, just make me feel terrible afterwards.

Flying back from the USA really knocks me for 6. Possibly because the flight starts at the end of a long day and dumps me at LHR when my body clock thinks it is far too early to be awake. The rest of that day is usually a blurr, I go to bed at about 8pm and sleep for 10 to 12 hours, after which I feel vaguely human.
I arrived back on Saturday last from BWI, one the last but one flight for the aged 767, it retired on Monday. Saturday was a mess, Sunday I wasn't much better, really only came good on Monday.

Up to 2002 I had a BA Gold Card, but slipped back to Blue due to a job change..now back to Silver for the last 4 years and with every chance I'll get back to Gold next year.

My retirement ambition is never to fly on a scheduled service ever again.

Like you were Peter slipping down the card ratings, but still have a Gold Virgin and a Silver BA card, though expect to go down when the new cards are issued. Usually eat at home for night flights, but like a large whisky and soda before sleeping. Long haul day flights on business I also drink, as it makes little difference to my constitution and living near the airport, I get a car home.

Flying from the USA, I take Melatonin which you can buy OTC in America which mitigates the jet-lag for me. You can't get it like this in the UK, have you tried it Peter?

What a great deal not to fly anymore. I hate airports with or without drinks.

Drinking at the poolside! That's life quality.

I have used melatonin it works well.
Currently BA gold Guest List with Concorde room card and a KLM lifetime platinum.

I also live within a 30 min taxi ride of LHR so usually don't drive.

I've only got a Nectar card and I don't drink.

I took my last flight on June 30th 2006, I shall be perfectly happy if I never set foot on an aeroplane ever again.
