"After looking at the thread about fuel hose clamps I'm thinking a small fire extinguisher for the passenger foot well might be nice."

Yes indeed! I had one sitting around when my fuel clamps gave up. Fixed that then mounted the extinguisher below the passenger dash. It is clearly visible and accessible. It is also required for entering your car in various car shows.

Killing two birds!

Sort out mat wells, stone chip mudguards and anywhere else that needs protection (around rear wheel?). Not sure until I see it for real.

The very first thing I would do is to check the bevel box to make sure there is gear oil in there?

When I opened my up after 300 mile, nothing came out but a small drip of black goo.

along with checking all the other fluids, oil tank and brake fluid

then start breaking her in!

I believe the "vent hole" in the rack is in the center of the rack. Stick an 1/8" rod in the hole to center the rack and check if the steering wheel is centered.

Bear in mind some of these relate to older M3W's so I'd suggest that you do just drive and enjoy it for a few days before getting too hung up on "fixing" things.

In particular:

Check the Fuel Hose clamps on the Throttle Body hoses.

I believe these are now improved from the original design so should be OK.

Make a PVC cover for the vent hole in the steering rack.

Probably not required - maybe a squirt of ACF-50 at some time.

Paint the bare metal part behind the engine where the steering column and steering rack join.

ACF-50

Plug the hole in the compensator housing.

Don't bother! It may not even still be there with the current standard Centra unit.

Weatherproof the area behind the seats.

New cars should now have a rubber seal between the aluminium seat back and the body which will help. if it gets wet it will dry out and then worry about further waterproofing

Paint the inner front fenders with chip-proof paint.

It won't do any harm but mine are still OK unprotected after 10,000 miles

Replace the long bolt that prevents the easy removal of the steering wheel.

thumbs

Enjoy looking at it and driving it first - you've certainly waited long enough!

If it's new I would just plaster it in ACF 50 to keep an corrosion out and go for a ride for a few thousand miles. Without it you will likely get unsightly surface rust on any bare metal - like the steering box and linkages. It's all sorted now so I wouldn't worry

I bought my car second hand and is fitted with the boot liner. Are they standard issue? Does one need the rear mudguard as well as the liner?
Someone was flogging compensator hole grommets on fleabay recently at £5.00 each.

Once I sealed my rear firewall I cancelled my order for the new mudguard.

I plan on sitting in it and drinking a glass of Lagavulin. After the drive, of course.
