Not everyone is as flexible or small enough to get down & get under, I'm afraid.
Jacking up may not be necessary, but it gives an opportunity to take the wheels off for the task.
A remote kit allows for greasing without all this on a tour.
And as for wasteful..? What, the bit that fills the flexible pipe? I wipe off more than that when it comes out..!!

I always jack it up and grease on tour without removing the wheels. I check everything's tight at the same time. Takes about 20 minutes. I generally do it in a hotel car park or garage so I put a long length of toilet paper in a sanitary towel disposal bag, then having completed the operation, wipe off any excess grease with the toilet paper which then goes into the bag together with the disposable gloves I wear before being chucked away.

Agree, I've got a full bumper with the low number plate so it's near impossible to do it on mine without jacking up. It just makes it so much easier I also use it as an opportunity to turn the wheels and give the inside of the wire wheels a wipe and quick clean

1. Jack up the front - Jack under the centre of the lower crossmember - handbrake on and chocks under wheels - Elf and Safety and all that !
2. Put axel stands under each side about 6 inches in from the wheel at each side to give you some room to manoeuvre
3. Get a good grease gun with a flexible nossle - add some grease
4. Find each nipple - should be two on each side, top and bottom of the springy pin bit
5. Locate the end of the grease gun on the nipple - sometimes a bit fiddly to get on and off
6. Squirt until you see the grease beginning to push out
7. Wipe any excess off with a piece of card and wipe some of it under the join where the damper blade meets the chassis
8. Have a nice cup of tea Fail - front end greasing is best done at the normal levels, so no need to jack up. 1. Open bonnet. 2. Place grease gun on remote nipple 3. Pump 3 times 4. Lower bonnet 5. Repeat for other side
6. Reward yourself for the time saved with tea and hobnobs.. Or go for a drive Neither I nor Spanner Juggler recommend a remote kit. Simpler, less wasteful to just grease directly and you stand a chance of spotting anything abnormal. But I do agree with a cup of tea bit and the idea of a 'test drive'. After all, you do have to make sure all is well... Actually Martyn, just being a pedant ;-), if the choice is a remote kit or no grease I would say get a remote kit, better that than let them run dry. As you correctly say I am not a fan but only for the reasons that it's hard to see how much excess is coming out (minor point) but. More important (IMHO) is that getting under affords the chance for a quick look around and spanner check. Totally accept that this is not always an advantage to those who have as much mechanical experience a I have with IT or who physically struggle. II have some very good friends who have bought a gun, some have even bought grease but the 2 items have never been introduced to each other and or the car! Given that situation a remote kit might just chivvy them on to greasing the pins. Horses for courses and all that ;-).

You are of course right if you let having a remote kit mean you never get under the car again. In my case I do, but I certainly don't intend doing it every 500 to 1000 mile intervals if that's the recommended greasing interval.
No way do I want to be laying under it on garage forecourts or hotel car parks when away. Far easier to give the remote a couple of pumps when it needs it and periodically do the spanner check as I do in the 'comfort' of my own garage or drive.
As for waste, what waste? None now comes out between the gun and nipple as it's far easier to get the right angle of the dangle on the remote block than trying to do it laying on your back, especially if you wear glasses and the things are never in the right place to see well.
It is of course easy to overdo it and excess will go unnoticed but it's equally easy to use some experience and know that 3 or 4 pumps is all it needs.
But like Colin says, horses for courses.

Quite right Steve. I am a 'jack it up and get underneath' type, but I find it very easy to avoid over greasing, I do mine every 1200 miles or so and find that 6 pumps from my gun is fine. To be honest, I don't know what people are doing to put so much of the stuff in that it gets on the discs, you would need to put half a gun full in to do that.

I've got a remote grease kit fitted. To be honest I think it's rubbish. The pipe on one side has "fatigue" fractured x2 in two years ( fns). I've replaced the standard nipples, I use a nice castrol molybdenum grease grease from above and below every 1000miles job done

Trev&Vmog, I would imagine right about now you beginning to wish you had never asked. You will have now had a very good example of what happens on this wonderful forum. There are some really knowledgeable people and there are some like me but if you ask two Morgan owners a question you will get three answers. Like most things Morgan, it's really up to you how you wish to approach things. You can use a dealer for servicing or do it all yourself or perhaps a half and half (there you go, 3 answers and I was talking to myself) but one thing you will always get here is an unswerving desire for everyone to help each other wherever possible.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg
