Hi All
I am a new (first week of ownership) Morgan owner and still have a lot to learn I would appreciate advice on greasing a 1997 4/4. The what where when and how would be great.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Talk Mog where you will find every thing you need ( and more )
Greasing the front suspension very much depends on how your car is equipped. The usual set up is for two grease nipples either side, one top and one bottom, which require a few strokes with a good quality grease somewhere between 500 and 1000 miles.
Some older cars still have a system which provides for engine oil to be injected.
I'm sure that someone with a little more knowledge about this system will be along soon.
You will also have 1,2 or 3 nipples on the prop shaft which like a little attention once a year.
I do hope you enjoy your new car and for more help and great knowledge, the members of HopMog would be a good port of call and of course, being in Kent, you are lucky to have Brands Hatch Morgan. What Keith doesn't know about Morgans isn't worth knowing.

1. Jack up the front - Jack under the centre of the lower crossmember - handbrake on and chocks under wheels - Elf and Safety and all that !

2. Put axel stands under each side about 6 inches in from the wheel at each side to give you some room to manoeuvre

3. Get a good grease gun with a flexible nossle - add some grease

4. Find each nipple - should be two on each side, top and bottom of the springy pin bit

5. Locate the end of the grease gun on the nipple - sometimes a bit fiddly to get on and off

6. Squirt until you see the grease beginning to push out

7. Wipe any excess off with a piece of card and wipe some of it under the join where the damper blade meets the chassis

8. Have a nice cup of tea

9. Ignore all that and ask DaveW how it's really done

10. But don't ignore the tea bit - that's crucial to finishing the job properly

1. Open bonnet.
2. Place grease gun on remote nipple
3. Pump 3 times
4. Lower bonnet
5. Repeat for other side

6. Reward yourself for the time saved with tea and hobnobs.. Or go for a drive

Fail - front end greasing is best done at the normal levels, so no need to jack up.


Neither I nor Spanner Juggler recommend a remote kit. Simpler, less wasteful to just grease directly and you stand a chance of spotting anything abnormal. But I do agree with a cup of tea bit and the idea of a 'test drive'. After all, you do have to make sure all is well...
