Looks like one of mine is a bit worn, heard they are rather expensive - does anyone know how much? Also how many does the car actually have, is it double wishbone front and rear so 8 in total? Thanks

Simon at Sifab is your man, I was told the factory have none in stock but worth checking. Simon can repair or manufacture to higher spec. I believe the bottom wishbone has a bush in it for the stub axle that is bonded to it, I think Simon said he can remove it and bond in a new one. The fronts on S1 have lower wishbone and top is canterlever arm like on a race car. I presume the rear is two wishbone of sorts fixed in the cassette that bolts to the chassis.

We need pictures here, I have plenty for the later versions, but not for the S1.

Is it not possible to fit polybushes instead of the rubber (a la Porker indie replacements)?

Anything is possible Graham. My understanding from Simon is the main bush is bonded to the wishbones and has to be removed and then a new one bonded back in, I presume if you can find a right size polybush then that could be fitted (not sure if they are not already poly). I presume there are bushed each side of the wishbone that it swings on, but I am wondering if these are some sort of rose joint arrangement, I'll see if I can take a look.

There's no bushes. The wishbones are all rose jointed to the chassis. The bottom front ball joint is a typical failure. This is pressed and bonded into the billet aluminium machined bottom section of the front upright. These days I'm seeing a lot of corrosion failures in the heat affected zones near the welds on the front wishbones. The rears tend to get bent where the rear suspension runs out of travel over large bumps. A couple of the front rocker arm showing the breakages Now if I could just get the machine shop to finish of making the new PTFE ram seals for Simons Aero steering rack, then I might be able to get on and make some more Aero parts for all you chaps... Thats correct, they are rose jointed and it is the rose joint that is worn - I believe it wears out the aluminium and thus the whole arm has to be replaced. If better than original ones can be sourced, even better!

If better than original ones can be sourced, even better! Wears out the aluminium?? The wishbones are steel..... The original equipment rod ends on the S1 are of superb quality, as are the aerospace grade nuts and bolts used throughout. Sadly the original manufacturer of the rod ends, Goldline, has long since gone out of business. NMB are a good and similar quality replacement. Do not be tempted by cheap rod ends on suspension components Simon @ SiFab.co.uk

Thanks Simon, that all makes sense now, I know where to come when I decide to do a refurb. In your experience how many miles do the generally last before needing refurbishment?
