It seemed like it, anyway..!

One of the hottest days of the year, but the garage area is in shade post meridian so I thought I'd do a little fettling, as you do..

I've been getting more and more cheesed off with having a black grille and seeing a bright area behind it. It just kind of niggles, you know? If it was body coloured, I'd be happy. But not silver/grey, not with the black radiator behind it.

So I set to & took the plate box off to get at the grille and it landed on my knees as I looked at it. Easy, then..!

Dug out some matt black from the depths of the garage and set to with a disposable brush. I say disposable because I was out of thinners, it was too hot to go and get some.

By the time I'd finished, the heat was making the paint and brush like painting with a yard brush..!! It was like a giant cotton bud by the end, nut 'tis done now.

Phew!

Ooh that's a black one!

there is something quite satisfying about brush painting when it's really warm.

The stuff dries so quickly you don't get the time for runs.....

I hope that paint isn't going over wax on the bottom panel or it's going to come off ,!!
Those beige rings look like under body seal.

I can't help but note the double drilled holes in that bottom panel.................

I noticed it too. It's because it's put together by Marks rather than Roberts.

Yeah, those holes.. Even I laughed..!! I'd have been strung up back in my apprentice days..

It IS over underseal, Peter. I wasn't expecting it to be perfect & to be honest, black underseal would be a better bet but I don't have any & I just wanted to see the finished product when it's back together. I'd rather have it like this than scraped off and rely on some cheap paint over the winter months. If it needs doing next year, it's a labour of love..

My Dads 1972 car (owned by him from new) had multiple drilled grill holes. When he went to pick it up it had no grille, for reasons long forgotten in the mists of time. The dispatch shop foreman drew one from stores and drilled the new holes whilst my Taid looked on!

Once he had finished with the grille, also touched in the screw heads on the front number plates and left a nice paint run down the number plate - carefully preserved during the cars rebuild!
