Good luck Peter.
The remote looks solid and well engineered and straightforward.
I fitted a similar Weller remote on a Ford Bullet gearbox and remember using it without bolting it down to ensure the selectors were locating properly. I could change gears without bolting it down which I needed to do to cut and fit the tunnel.
This may give you a steer on whether its the remote or gearbox.

Well unfortunately it has been confirmed. The problem is somewhere internal to the gearbox, probably in the selector mechanism. This means an engine and gearbox removal so no Morgan for at least a month frown banghead

The bad luck is that it had to happen to me, a long way from the supplier and in the month when the only dealer within a reasonable distance is closed for the summer break.

The good luck is that it happened only 20km from home and not in the middle of Sicily last month.

Vitesse have been incredibly helpful with response to emails in a timely manner, advice, detailed instructions, and photos. In over 6,000 Mazda gearboxes supplied they have never had a problem with the gearboxes or the selector mechanism and this has made remote diagnosis difficult. In this day and age their service has been a breath of fresh air, and one must bear in mind that I am not their direct customer but removed by 2 degrees(Morgan and the dealer). I only wish all businesses were so responsive.

Sorry to hear the news on the box itself being at fault, pleased about your experience with Vitesse though very refreshing treatment these days.

Good luck for a timely solution.

Peter

Did you ever have any none critical oddities with the gearbox in the past? like something that wasn't normal and then resolved itself?

When was the gearbox oil last changed?

Very sorry to hear that You will loose the use of Your Morgan in Mid Summer. Makes it rather infuriating that Miata's all over the world are shifting OK. Makes one wonder.

Sorry to hear your news Peter but it seems you are in good hands with excellent support from Vitesse. Seems like they deserve hearty thanks for looking after one of our own in such and efficient and professional manner. An example we should encourage.

I trust the issue is soon resolved. thumbs

Would it be better to pick-up a second hand/recond box and fit that? Keep the old one, repair "at leisure" and keep for future use/sale?

Other option is could you remove the gearbox at home and "send" off and save some serious labour hours.
