Can anyone advise pls,
I'm interested in improving the brakes on my 1952 +4, (TR4 powered) and so thinking about disc brake conversion.
Is this straightforward? Are Tr4 the bits to use.? Somewhere out there I'm sure there area lot of people who've done this and a few may have posted their approach (and results. ) somewhere but i haven't found the links yet so I'd be grateful of pointers.

Hi there,
This is a pretty straightforward conversion, if a trifle expensive these days.
You will need a lot of hardware including the later stub axles and hubs , plus the discs, calipers, pads etc.
Most of these parts are specific to Morgans so you may not have much luck finding anything else to fit.
However whilst the parts above will take care of the front end , I would really strongly recommend using Aeroquip front brake hoses, and a new master cylinder in order to cope with higher braking power.
I am not sure if 1952 is a year when MMC fitted narrow drums to the +4, if it yours has these , then a much cheaper upgrade can be dome using the wider (full width) drums from the later cars (plus of course new shoes, and possibly new wheel cylinders). I think these can also use the same stub axles (but please check with others first. Unless you are into repeated high speed stops and use in deep water I would think that this conversion will give you the braking power you are after , but at a fraction of the cost of the disc brake set up.

I have a set of Caparo calipers with new green stuff pads and new discs also a set of new unused pads sourced from williams. I have just removed them from my 2011 plus 4. The discs and pads have actually done just under a 1000 miles. I may part with these bits if you are interested. Flexible hoses are included.

+1 for the wide drum conversion as suggested by Andy
I think Terry Foxen at GEE stocks some if not all of the necessary parts to do the conversion so I would suggest that he is your first port of call.
Cheers

Loretta Nelson's '58 +4-4Str were converted to Datson Alloy Drums and Porterfield Linings well over 10 years ago. I have driven Her Morgan and the brakes are good. Must keep them adjusted however.
