Hi all, first post on here so please be gentle!

I've read all the reviews and watched all the vids, I hired a M3W from Malvern the other week as well and have to say…I’m completely smitten!

My car history has mainly been performance German stuff but looking for a week-end toy that gives me more of an adventure, rather than just out & out Autobahn speed.

Few questions I’m hoping you guys might be able to answer:

1 – Exhaust, the car I hired had the Stage 1 exhaust & filter, it didn’t look much different to standard pipes but from what I’ve read the diameter is approx 88mm compared to the 75mm standard. Is it possible to achieve similar pops & bangs from modifying the standard system (IE remove baffle or similar)? I understand Garge56 do a similar priced stage 1 system as well.

2 – Bright Pack, love the classic look of the polished roll hoops & cowl but not to fussed on the engine & headlamps. At £2795.00 it’s obviously a very expensive option, has anyone had their standard black hoops or cowl chromed? If so, what were approximate costs?

3 - Tyres, car I had was running the Blockley tyres, looked great and I understand they perform slightly better than the standard Avons. On the options list it says “Blockley square cut wheels & tyres £474.00”, what does this mean..”square cut wheels” as it’s just the tyres I’m after?

4 - Seats, there is an option of "Centre split leather seats - £300.00", silly question now, but what exactly are these?

Also, I know each car is individual but what would you guys suggest as "must have" options?


Standard car is now priced at £33,354.00 which I can probably get past the wife. If I add another £5k+ worth of options though it’s not gonna happen..:(
My ideal “standard” car would be Sport Grey with tan (or red) leather and a few other goodies but need to be realistic on these costs though hence the questions.

Which is EXACTLY the route I took - no need for 200mph cars that don't engage until 150mph....!



Plenty of threads on here about modifying the stock exhaust, but you'll just end up with a nasty, noisy thing in my view. If you want a properly designed, efficient and sporting exhaust, go either G56 or MMC Stage-1. I have G56 and it is perfect in my view, albeit with a bigger silencer than stock, as this one both flows AND silences effectively! This is a must-have in my view.

£474 is outrageous for a pair of front tyres, when you don;t even get the originals in the first place! The Avons are not best suited to the M3W and the Blockleys are much better in my opinion. But just buy them from MWS - £90 each.

I assume it replaces the single backrest in standard cars with a pair of upright cushions. Not seen one, so others may need to comment here.



Just the G56 or MMC Stage-1 kit really - otherwise the engine is strangled, pinks, overheats and is generally grumpy. Blockleys as you've already identified and in my case a rack for those touring times. Read the other threads on here for the all important "Spares & Tools Bag", which really should be a factory option too!



Nice combo. You really don;t need to spend much on extras - but remember that most aftermarket options are MUCH cheaper than getting the guys in Malvern Link to nail them together for you

Ok, Blockleys have a square profile. puts more rubber on the road.

Save money fit blockleys youself £105 each.
options, the world is your oyster.

Me, no chrome. Extra funds for stage 3 upgrade.

Centre split seats, cosmetic. Not needed.

Exhaust and engine, check out Krazy horse.
They have been doing this the longest.

Fit rear mudguard. Spax adjustables, fit a Harley rectifier.

Insurance, Gottandwyn.

The tyres are not an easy choice.

I had Avons on my car - BUT the Blockleys are highly acclaimed on here x owners - am sure others will give you advice on which way to go.

BTW I am custodian and International Sales Manager of Talk Morgan Lapel Badges - at £3 each or £7.50 for two inc of postage - they are your first must have - and cheapest accessory!!!

1) I have the MMC stage 1 and the engine runs much smoother, and should be a cheaper option than the G56. The same effect can be had by removing the baffles discussed on many threads in this forum.
2) I was keen to have the polished cowl but was not prepared to pay for the polished option, on some cars with this option the engines are now starting to look corroded. The cowl is actually painted stainless so you could get it polished.
3) Depends how you are going to drive it the only option when I bought mine was the Avons but having done 10,000 miles have just switched to Blockleys, £270 fitted with new tubes at MWS.
4) Split seat haven't seen one, whats the advantage?

Financially, I was also thinking of buying 2nd hand but I'm also thinking that could be a bit Russina Roulette with a vehicle like this (in fact, even a bit Russian Roulette with a new one!).

The ironic thing is, I'm literally just in the process of a house purchase to an area called Hartpury and it's only 17 miles (lovely cross country roads) from the Malvern factory but they can't sell me a car, has to go through dealers further afield.

Hope you get what you want, that one you test drove looks stunning, great paint colour and scheme .

I would go along with the advice given so far. If you buy new, keep the Avons and change to Blockleys after a couple of seasons. The inner tubes will be Blockley tubes anyway which I didn't realise. So that saves you £500 straight off the bat.

Good advice. Use the Avons up and treat them like training wheels. When they're done go to Blockleys or the Coker Excelsior tires.

Welcome and I endorse the M3W providing more accessible fun than a supercar.

Re options, If I were buying now compared to my 2013:

No immobiliser - I ordered it because I thought it would help the insurance but it doesn't so save the pennies

Stage 1 (or G56) - virtually an essential in the way it transforms the car

Bonnet catches - the ***ing dzus fasteners really get on one's wick.

Rear mudguard - although the back end does get dirty it's not been an issue but the extra protection can't hurt.

Blockleys - They weren't an option in 2013 but are a much better tyre. As others have said get them fitted yourself.

I agree the chrome pack looks good but it's a lot of money - I went for stock black.

If you go down the second hand route - if a pre 2014 car make sure it's had the steering mod, urban cooling, centra compensator and frame strengthening upgrades.
