On my 2002 Plus8 the sensor is near the thermostat housing. The thermostat has two small bypass holes in it to allow a small flow through when the stat is closed. When I flushed the system at the last coolant change I forgot to check the stat in a saucepan so can't tell you what it opened at!
The fan switch is in the top tank screwed into a boss. The heat soak leads to a rise in temp there when on stop hence the fan kicking in on hot days in slow traffic etc..
As an aside.... Has anyone filled with Evans waterless? What effect, if any, on the running temp? I know someone who had a new rad and Evans at same time so no feedback on it's cooling efficiency.

thanks all greatly appreciated. I've had issues with fan switch (knackered), fan (now slightly knackered) which makes me want to replace anyway. And now the temp guage is not working hence my need for location of temp sensor... Seems cooling system is a bit on achilles...

FYI my temp gauge showing nothing was nothing more than a corroded connection on temp sender fitted in the block. WD40 and right as rain.

nope regulating perfectly. just temp sensor going haywire, which in combo with a knackered fan / fan switch confused me. Got your mail Simon, will reply.
