Hi all,
Couple of questions I'd really appreciate some help with:
1. Does anyone know the exact thermostat for a 1996 Plus 8 have a link to it in a parts store/online. Struggling to find exact one...
2. Where does the in-dash temperature get its reading from? thermostat, on radiator temperature sensor on rad or elsewhere?

The Rover V8 takes the temp sensor from various places. It could be in the radiator, it could be in the inlet manifold close to the thermostat. Try the MG Owners Club MGV8 parts list, or a Land Rover Parts specialist. When you fit it, the hole in the flange should be at 12 o'clock.

The Rover V8 takes the temp sensor from various places. It could be in the radiator, it could be in the inlet manifold close to the thermostat. Try the MG Owners Club MGV8 parts list, or a Land Rover Parts specialist. When you fit it, the hole in the flange should be at 12 o'clock. Dave are you saying it's taking multiple readings or that the places changed over time? will check MGV8 part list also.

Changed over time Alex. MGBV8 has a capillary tube at the front of the inlet manifold next to the thermostat. I've seen Plus 8s with a radiator connector in the bottom tank but bear in mind this could be for the electric fan.

If you get caught up and its a bit later than that Dave is it an issue?

Alex I've got the correct thermostat on the shelf. I send them out with all my +8 aluminium radiators. The sender for the gauge is electric, and mounted on the front of the inlet manifold next to the thermostat housing. The otter switch in the bottom of the radiator is to control the electric fan Simon @ SiFab.co.uk

I am not sure of the part number but there will be several which fit , and each will have a different opening temperature.
Morgans used to fit a 85 Deg C unit , until emissions regulations forced them to run the Rover V8 hotter , at which point I think it went to 92 Deg C, but there are probably other temperatures in addition. The exact opening temperature is not critical in a Morgan application.
My temperature sensor (on a 1999 car) is at the bottom of the radiator, but the location does change from year to year.
