In the box of bits that came with my Morgan was a plastice pipe with a metal bracket thing at one end. Apparently it connects to the side of the K&N filter somehow and directs air from the exhaust manifold area. I've seen a picture of one fitted to a Fiesta with the Specialised Engines 1.9 CVH conversion and it's to prevent cold air entering the carb for long periods. But does anyone know what the effects are of cold air entering the carb for long periods? It wasn't fitted to the car so could that have been the cause of the throttle sticking I experienced after an hours run on the motorway on Christmas Eve bring the car home?

the carb can freeze if its cold enough for long enough, it happened to my fiat uno once on the downhill side of saddleworth moor on the M62, it just died and I had to coast to the hard shoulder. once stationary it all warmed through and off i went as if nothing had happened.
This is the one thing that has concerned me with the K+N filter set up, if someone comes along and advised how this can be avoided I will be all ears too!

On the other hand, what a carb needs is cool, dense air in an uninterrupted flow. Low underbonnet temperatures don't seem a wide spread problem in trads- which have a reputation for running on the warm side of normal
Maybe someone else on the site, such as Cereal, or Jim M have some ideas on this?

Yep.. the pipe is to stop the Carb icing up... as originally it would have been designed to be fitted to fiesta's and escorts.
You probably won't need it on a Mog as the intake is under the bonnet and the air is generally quite warm there anyhow.

I should leave the pipe in the box where you found it, youd have to be going some to get a CVH 4/4 carb to ice up just with a K&N.
As for you throttle sticking,
check the cable is free and the inner slides smoothly in the outer, check the outer make sure the plastic covering is not melted,this could point to a poor engine earth,a common problem on Morgans, if this is the case change the cable and make good the earth points to the chassis, in the engine bay and at the battery.
Check the pedal isn't fouling any carpets, rubber trim on the inside of the scuttle etc.
make sure that the linkage at the carb end is free and nothing is fouling it.
