I have the Librands Quad Exhaust system on my S1 (cost me £1500 ish fitted earlier this year) and its fantastic - not intrusive at all and sounds fantastic when opening her up, I do wish it was a bit louder actually however the more miles I do the better its starting to sound, with more burbles and pops - I have only done 400miles with it on so its not fully bedded in yet. Ian I have the librands ,quad pipe,rear exit exhausts fitted to my S1 - - the sound is not too intrusive,particularly on tick over/idle.I also fitted an ITG air filter which further improves the sound (and pick up!) on acceleration I quite fancy the side exit pipes but a number of people have commented that they can be a bit 'wearing' on a e.g. a motorway run.... James More details on the Air Filter please!  For series 1 the quad rear is the pick. Side pipes on the S1 are an expensive option - at the factory it's reputedly a 5k job..
On s2 and later going to side pipes is cheaper (I had my s2 converted - around 1500 about 7 years ago). On the later cars I would go side pipes (especially on 4.8 engine)... Infinity exhausts do the side pipes for approx £400. The factory don't supply them anymore for the S1.

Librands quad here too but wasn't noisy enough for me so I had the inside of the side silencers bunged up too. Makes a nice noise but I don't think I will ever obtain the kind of US muscle car V8 noise I want because of cranks and firing orders etc
Personally I'm not keen on side exit as they always sound off beat because one pipe is closer to you lug hole

The best way to think of the Librands is it is an improvement over the standard fit system, it isn't in the slightest bit obtrusive when at low revs or cruising, however it gives a lovely burble on startup and sound great on open throttle.
For me personally the only reason I want it a bit louder is the wind noise means you can't hear anything above about erm shall we say 77mph...
